I can get them installed for $329 ( Trail Fx or Westin) plus taxes but seeing some on ebay for $141 though the brand is Automax. Just wondering if you guys put your own on or seen it done and is it easy, PITA, or what. Holes have to be drilled im sure. I mean with 2 people and lining it up it shouldn't be bad to mark the holes and do it but just wondering. I might just get it installed and put on at same time i get the cover done. By the way I found a good price on a used cover and they are going to install it

I have an 04 but just wondering

most steps use pre-existing tapped holes under your truck, and will have the proper bracket to utilize them. People usually don't have to drill new holes in the truck.

It depends if they are bolt on or weld on. If they are bolt on, the holes are already there and it should just be a matter of holding it in place and bolting it in. For some brands there may need to be additional holes drilled but most should go where the factory ones were/are installed.

My 2013 Access Cab already had drilled and threaded holes in the frame for the side steps. It was just a matter of lining up the holes and bolting the steps in place. Check the frame of your '04, the holes may already be there.

you should be able to loosely thread the brackets into place on the frame, lay the step on the brackets, center it up, loosely thread the step onto the brackets, then go back and tighten the bracket-to-frame blots, and tighten the bracket-to-step bolts.-all of this you can do by yourself. should take you no more than 15 min per side.

yes guys i'm talking about the nerf ones like pictured. I will check and see if it has the holes already and if so I will do myself :)

save that 70 bucks installation fee and order them online saving even more vs spending 329 at the camper place

I will email the guy on ebay and see if comes with all hardware, bolts, ect

yep, as others have said it's crazy easy to do. Check out the regions section and see if any other locals in the area are willing to help out if you need some help holding. You can do it by yourself if you prefer.

Most of the suppliers of bars have detailed instructions that can be accessed on-line for installing their products.

I just bolted on a new set of N-Fab nerf bars by myself a little over a week ago. Easy to do as long as the bars/steps you are purchasing are using the pre-drilled holes. When you look underneath, you'll see little plastic screws that you can easily remove with your hand. Just unscrew those and you'll reveal the holes for the bolts.

You can usually find a YouTube video that shows how to install them. I would advise you to do a little research on the steps you want to buy. You may find a cheap set, but some of the cheap ones will start to rust pretty quickly. Read the reviews of people who have already installed them. IMHO it's better to spend a little more and get something that will last.

also the 4 inch ones appear to be chrome while the 3 inch round ones are stainless. I like the chrome better because they are oval but that stainless will be rust free longer right?

on edit here is what the feature section for the 4 inch ovals said:

Heavy Duty T-304 Full Stainless Steel with Warranty Against Rust And Corrosion, Oval Design Provides A More Secure Area

but for color it said chrome. Maybe all of them are stainless but ofcourse the color would be a chrome color im thinking

yeah these days you never know. I do prefer the oval or round bars though over the sliders
