Nothing can stop a thief, just gonna try to discourage him
Did a hose clamp for the tailgate
Wanted more security so i found/removed these tight down hooks from my old jeep and give my Taco a little mod

1-Remove the 10mm bolt on the bed frame at the end and replace with a new 5mm allen bolt with
the hook and a washer and tighten it
2-Align the 2nd hook from the tailgate to the first hook and make a mark for
    drilling
3-Disassemble the back of the tailgate with a T30 wrench. Put a piece of wood
underneath at the drilling spot to prevent accidental puncture through the tailgate
4-Attach the same 5mm allen bolt with a nut on the back end and washers and
hand tight it, close the tailgate to align both hooks with your liking position
drop the tailgate and tight with a wrench underneath to hold the nut and an allen/hex key
    from the outside
5-Put everything back together and enjoy a cold one.

You may also consider putting an oversized washer where the drop cables hook on both sides. This will make it a little more difficult to unhook the cables from the bed.

Padlock and eyelet hooks - one of the best ideas I've seen so far.

Just get a pop n' lock. Much easier. And can't be cut with a bolt cutter.

Pop n Locks have their own set of problems, mostly being notoriously flimsy. I guess they are going in a notoriously flimsy tailgate so maybe they thought it was par for the course when they designed it.
