I'm installing grab (aka Oh $hit!) handles in my 04. There are no holes/nuts that I can find as this year doesn't have them at all.

Can anyone with an earlier model, preferably 00-02(?), measure the distance between the pillar behind the door and the handle. Also the distance from the door gasket up.

Have you removed the panel to look for screw holes? It wouldn't surprise me if they are hidden.

Of the hundreds of members with these trucks nobody is willing to walk outside and measure where their handle is located?!

I've got a 2003. It has grab handles, but only in the A pillar.

Yeah, I've got the ones on the A pillar too. So maybe it's a pre 01 feature.

Well, I still think that a proper grab handle is essential for anyone that doesn't have a wheel to hold onto.

Can any of you 98-00 folks offer any info?

In a 98 it's approx. 8.5" from the inside of the door jam to the back edge of the handle and about 3/8" from the door trim. Hope this helps.

    Thanks everyone!

In lieu of a definitive answer I just started poking holes and cutting until things got real desperate and I broke out the heat gun :bananadead: Turns out that somewhere between 700-900°F the handle will get nice and malleable; I was able to contort it to fit some M6 threaded nuts that I found only above the passenger side door.

All-in-all I'm really stoked with the end result. I'd be surprised in anybody who didn't know it was a hack job thought it was anything but stock. The only bummer was that I got some of the grease from under the door gasket on the headliner in a couple of small spots. A small price to pay for peace of mind!

I'll post pics when I get a chance.

Long shot, I know, and you last logged on in Mar 2022 but….

Wondering if you have pics of the grab handle installed in the headliner where the 95-00s go?

Last road trip I was always reaching for that spot in my 04. The ones in the A pillar are essentially useless.
