I read a lot of good things about the rack, but could not find any information on it for 1st gen double cabs. Did some research and according to the TracRac website as well as other websites that sell the rack say it should fit. So I went to Home Depot and purchased one last night. The box says it fits Tacomas 2005 and up, but I went with what I read online and went for it anyway. Got home and found that the base that clamps on to the bed rail is about an inch wider so it sticks out. I'm still not sure how I feel about it and debating if I should keep it on. The racks are sturdy and I only plan on using it for my paddleboard. Just wondering what others think about it...

3 years later.. did you keep the rack? I'm contemplating one myself, was wonderful if you stuck with it.

    I got this one:

    $323 Erickson 07705 Aluminum Truck Rack (66.4" x 12.6" x 34" assembled, 800lb rated)https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015CJI7NU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_u.TRzb779ZKXY

I discussed my experiences with it in this thread (although it was half the price back when I bought it):

It's nice that it doesn't require putting any holes in the truck. I've used mine for lumber and ladders and am very pleased with it. And I can put it on or take it off in around 5 minutes. The Amazon page linked in that thread shows other available racks at different price points.

It sticks out over the bed rail by maybe 1/4" on my 2004 Taco. Not nearly as much as the one shown above. And you could easily shave off most of that if it was really important to you.

That looks great. I was leaning towards a tracrac for the Thule and tool box compatibility. I’ve got a tool box already and I’d like to mount a ski box on the racks. I’m a carpenter and i don’t want a cap, so a ski box for extra dry storage is the idea.
