hello fellow taco lovers! i'm new at this so sorry in advance...

first off i'd like to give a HUGE thanks to all of you for the help you have already given me just from reading your posts.. i had no idea what a TSB was until today and now parts will be in on friday for the suspension installation (install date to be determined). i had originally signed up to ask what that terrible pound was every time i hauled two dirt bikes and to see if a lift would fix the problem..

ok, now for the question.. AFTER the TSB mod, what is the maximum size allterain tire i can go with WITHOUT experiencing tire rub? i currently have stock Bridgestone Dueler H/T size P265/65R17. Are the new shocks the Bilstein 5100's? and if not do you think they will install them for me if i pay them the extra cost (i.e front adjustable 5100 in front only)?

...also i was considering a 2" lift with larger tires before i found out about the mod.. will the mod have the effect of a lift? and if not, what extra can i do to shove bigger tires in there? this IS my daily driver and frequently take long trips. i just want to beef up its appearance whlie taking care of the problem at hand..

SORRY this is so long and sorry for all the questions.. and THANKS for all the advice you can throw at me.. i plan to post pics soon!

    Welcome to the site!

Since you're already getting the TSB done you'll just need to lift the front a bit and you'll have plenty of room for some 31"-32" tall tires. You get to figure out what that equates to in metric. :p

I think I'm running 275/70R16s with a 3" lift in the rear and 2.5" in the front and am happy with the stance.

How you lift is really up to you. The easiest and cheapest is a spacer and the options get more interesting from there.

welcome...first of......now to the knitty gritty....

#1) since u already have a trd model, they wont replace the shocks...just the rear springs and a front alignment. it will only raise the rear about an inch.
#2) i'm sure u can pay them to install the shocks and have them set at 2.5" or whatever u want before they do the alignment.
#3) stock height u can run 265/70/17's....if u do 2.5-3" u can run 285/70/17's w/ some minor trimming/removing the mud flaps up front.

hope this helps. any more questions, feel free to ask. plenty of people on here

its a technical service bulletin. basically a way to fix something that toyota has deemed disfunctional, but not big enough to be a recall

well it wont affect ur truck yet b/c it doesnt cover the 08's, but if ur truck only has 3 leafs in the back, it will cover urs as soon as they update it to include the 08's

My dealer was kind enough to not remove all this garbage. Including my full name on my truck on both sides.

Noticed yours is built in Mexico and doesn't have 4 leafs total in the rear? Thought those did.

thanks alot guys for the info.. this is the first forum i've ever been on and am surprised at the response already..

i already spoke with the dealer and they said they will replace all four shocks and put springs in back..

basically what i'm getting so far is that it might be better for me to opt for the ADJUSTABLE bilstein 5100's in the front for now and consider lifting the rear an extra inch or two after the mod, therefore being able to beef it up with bigger tires later.. does this sound like a good way to go or would you suggest otherwise?

...and if so, how much do these bilstein 5100 adjustable shock run?

Neither, Just thought that trucks made in and for Mexico and Canada on the 08's anyway already had the four leaf rear springs. All US made trucks are still lacking these as well.

they shouldn't replace the shocks on a TRD. if they do its a mistake and you need to be careful that they dont replace them with the wrong shocks. if you get your truck back and your shocks are black instead of yellow, they took the good shocks off and put crappy ones on. this has happened before

the shocks you have now should have a blue cap at the end but the actual shock itself should be yellow. sometimes the dealership gets confused and puts on the wrong parts. the TRD does not get its shocks replaced under the TSB. if your dealer is doing that, then they may not be clear on what the TSB includes and may possibly put on the black regular 4x4 shocks. i think that happened to tacomaman06, you may want to pm him and ask. 5100's are great but i dont know if the dealer will order them for you or put them on for you. my dealership wont do anything other than OEM so you'll just have to ask yours to see what they will do

some tacos are built down there but not all. plus, i dont think anywhere makes a "complete" tacoma, parts are manufactured all over the world
