It begins with the dog platform, various little mods/tweaks throughout the thread

So if your like me you have a dog(or two)

    F136A442-C6FA-4EDB-BCC6-5921DEEA2CF0_zps_b1f51f7272d1a5b35c95203783b203a361100bbb.jpg

Now the little one is named Drax. He has no issue riding wherever he can fit his tiny little ass. Ruger on the other hand isnt so easy to accommodate, and looks very uncomfortable straddling the two jump seats in the rear. So today in order to accompdate my right hand man I decided to make a platform for him.

    First get some lumber

    3EC4E37A-C2C8-4FC6-BF3D-D68C6857F400_zps_e14a8aec4f3ccb60c85910347e3ed37fb412762c.jpg

Now I'm not doing this with any sort of traditional "plans" per-se. So I winged it:D

    D5AA169B-E21F-4352-86BE-C1E07615C3FF_zps_656a1815d3278b1044fdb9a95781924580132110.jpg

Now be careful when your cutting wood because eventually a crucial piece will fall, when that happens you'll most likely be drinking a beer and not notice. When you do finally set the beer down you'll find that crucial piece has been chewed.

Picture of the crucial piece and culprit...

Now since you've been drinking beers and working away you'll slowly realize that you don't have enough 2x4s. Leaving you partially finished:

    To be continued...

Tomorrow when i have more beers and wood

Haha, I think you may have some carpentry skills, obviously a good photographer, all around good guy, because you want the best for your dogs.
Your true calling may be in writing comedy, enjoyed the read.
If you can make more money than it takes to purchase the beers that make you funny, count it as success, notch on the belt, another job well done.
Attached a pic of my deck in my access cab.
Good luck, looking forward to seeing the progress. Have a beer or 5 before you post.

That looks awesome, mine won't look nearly that pretty.

Does anyone know what carpet matches the stock toyota grey color? I'd like something as close to OEM color as possible

There are a couple of other dog platform threads on here, they seem to be able to find the loop pile gray fairly easily. I think Home Depot or Lowes.
Anxious to see the frame structure, looks interesting.
My background is in metal, I'm not that good with wood.

Ok it's finished (nearly, I need to find some carpeting that matched the grey interior)

    First get some local beer.

Next, since you've been at the shop for the past night, politely invite the GF to join in on the festivities.

    Smug smile included

Next, haphazardly assemble pieces of freshly acquired wood.

*not my GF anymore, she got cold so I drove her back down the hill to the house and managed to scrounge up some help. Cousins paid in beer come in handy

Cut up some plywood and finish the top piece

I'll end up painting the legs matte black with some paint I have left over from painting a rifle.

    Cheers

    Little update:

I spoke with the company that does all the upholstery for my shop, they are sending out someone on Monday to color match carpeting for the platform :D

You lost space by not building it to work with the rear seats down, looks good otherwise.

Yeah, originally I started with them down. That changed quickly because my dog is usually soaking wet/muddy during hunting season, with them folded up I don't have to worry about the seat backs getting muddy/wet. I think I'm going to make a cloth cover for them to protect the cloth.

Looking good, glad you hooked up on the carpet.
Too bad about the G/F, looks like you are able to maintain a consistent screw pattern.
Who knows? Plenty more out there.

You aren't wasting any time with that truck. How come you didn't keep the 4door?

Which 4door? I was looking at a 2002 access cab, 5 speed, as well as an FJ. I hated the ride of the FJ. This one came along and I ended up getting it for a decent deal

I swear nic and Shawn told me you started with a 01-04 4dr, then you switched to the access cab?
