Want to swap out my 60/40 bench with 4Runner buckets (when I find them) and put a center console in my 97 4WD auto. What years of Tacomas will fit and will any 4Runner ones fit?

you can get one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rampage-39223-Bench-Seat-Center-Console-Charcoal-16-5-x-8-5-x-9-/331423719276?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3AToyota&hash=item4d2a649f6c&vxp=mtr

its an inch too wide and will rub on the seats a little but finding a center console in decent shape that they don't want $150 or more for is like finding free money and you can buy a new one from Toyota for around $350 so I cant see paying someone $200+ shipping for a used one that may stink like tobacco or have cracks or other undisclosed issues.

I think the 90-95 4runners had skinny consoles like we do, I know the 96 and up are too wide to fit between our seats. the problem is most of the 4runners also had the e-brake lever slot in the consoles which leave a big ugly gapping hole there and I don't think it matches up to connect to our shifter trim but I cant say for sure.

if you are the least bit handy with wood, you can make a center console to fit your own personal needs for only a few dollars and I think it would look much nicer then a cheap plastic console with limited store and lids that break off way to easy. cup holder inserts can be had on ebay for $5 or so for a factory finished look, just my opinion though.

I had plans to make me a wooden console but instead I decided to take a gamble on this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/151599748012?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

the measurements look like they work and the price is hard to pass up and its near impossible to find the ones without those big giant e-brake holes or slots in them. i'll let you know when it arrives how it fits but the measurements say it should fit

he has another one in blue as well here http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toyota-4run...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item234cfc98b4

he wanted $40 for the one I bought but agreed to $30 so try offering him that if you need a blue one

you can use that plastic spray paint to change color, I plan to repaint mine even though its already the brown color I need just so it looks better

dang i was looking forward to seeing how you were going to build a custom console. I will be making one out of wood sometime in the near future, unreal to see how much money those consoles are for sale for...

nice find for one for 30$ though hope it works well for you

yep, I was looking for this guy to show him what was one ebay (if anything) and saw it.

its a little rough in the pictures so I hope its worth using but if nothing else, I might even cover it in fiberglass  giving this option very serious thought since it would cover all the switches and things I have no use or need for.

I really wanted and expected to be making a wooden one, but just being realistic with my own "craftsmanship" limitations, I just haven't been very satisfied with the finished looks of wooden consoles I made in the past (very boxy and rough looking). they were rock solid and worked great and would outlast the vehicles they were in but I just haven't been able to make em look as nice as I pictured in my mind.

    UPDATE:

got the console today, this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/151599748012?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

and I am happy to report its a very nice fit and looks to be perect except the bottom needs just a little trim. on these 4runner consoles the floor hump has a dip in it and so I need to trim off about an inch of the 6" long little dip down part on the sides near the front part where it slants down to the floor so its a little more straight across from front to back. it still needs "some" angle to it but this one is hitting and not letting the console sit flat to the floor.

I can report this is a perfect "donor" console that just needs "minor" modification to look factory. it matches up to the drink tray screw holes (I have console shifter) and will only need you to make a bracket for the back end to bolt down with.

the one drawback for me was in getting one that didn't have all the e-brake holes in it and this one didn't.

I just got lucky and bought blue 4runner Sport seats, cloth in mint condition. While also at the scrapper, I found a tall SR5 center console that will fit. It doesn't have the inserts -- wondering what people have done for the inserts to keep everything organized. I'll send pics soon -- looks like everything will not right in.
