How well do the stock Dunlops perform on snow and/or iced roads?

I will be making a trip up to the Chicago area in December and want to make sure I won't be sliding all over the road uncontrollably while I'm there. I'm from Louisiana, so snow has never been a factor in my daily driving. I have a 4x4 Sport, which I know will help some. But I also realize you have to be much more aware of your surroundings.

Any tips for driving under these conditions would be greatly appreciated.

The stock dunlops are not the greatest but it's not worth replacing tires unless your near the end of their life anyway for a single trip. Use the 4hi if there is snow. It will help you get moving from a dead stop and helps to keep you from spinning out but it does not make you invincible. ABS helps you stop. 4wd does nothing to help slow you down. Downshifting helps you brake on decents like some off ramps and general downhills. Remember to just go slower in the snow or ice. No sudden actions. Slow accelerations and give yourself plenty of room to stop.

Wow , A straightforward answer, I thought for sure this would turn into a rant about how bad the original tires are and how "my" new tires are the best thing since sliced bread. Now I know who to contact for an objective answer, thanks Keith

Thanks for all the useful info. It will definitely come in handy while driving up there. New tires are on my wish list, but I am nowhere near the end of their life as I haven't even broken the 1k mark on my truck yet. My trip is only for the weekend to see my sister graduate from the Navy boot camp in Great Lakes, so it's not like this is going to be a regular thing by any means.
