    Awesome work!!!

Can you explain what exactly is going on here in detail? I've seen you use this fabrication process here and very early on when fabricating your center console and bed access panel. What are the materials used and what is the process? Any more information you can provide would be helpful. Any links to external sites with tutorials or anything?

    Thanks!

Sure and thank you! In these pictures I am building the amp rack out of the old storage compartment that comes factory under the back seats. I just needed the top of it to help form and match the contours of the floor. Starting at the top I cut the lid off of the compartment and attached 3 pieces of 1/4" MDF where I was going to mount the 2 plexi windows and the Front Row processor. Then I stretched the green material (any stretchy absorbent material would do when fiberglassing small projects) then I covered the material in fiberglass resin to harden its shape. I strengthened the green material where the wood isn't covering with fiberglass mat on the back side so it wasn't so thin and brittle. Next I applied bondo to even out the top and form the smooth corners and slopes. A lot of sanding involved!!! Once I cut out the squares for the components to fit I carpeted the finished piece with the same box carpet I used on the subwoofer enclosure for a good match.

Thank you for the info. I have a few more questions.

    1. Is the green material a fabric like polyester or fleece?
    2. After applying the resin, did you apply layers of fiberglass?
    3. Did you add the MDF specifically to have a mounting surface?

The green material is a stretchy fabric idk where it came from it was just in a closet. Anything absorbant and stretchy will work. Being stretchy helps to form to the curves and absorbant to let the fiberglass resin soak in. You could even use an old t-shirt like I used for the radio housing behind the shifter.
I did apply layers of the fiberglass mat on the back side while it was wet but only to the parts that were thin and needed thickness for strength.
I used MDF to have something to mount to and pressure the plexiglass into. Also for make the top flat because the stetched material probably would have sagged without it, even stretched tight

Well guys, I went to a Tundra since you've heard from me last. Actually this is my 2nd Tundra since then. But I miss my Taco and will more than likely go back to one. BUT this is what I've been up to this summer (click the YouTube link for my video) and wanted to share with you guys! Hope everyone's doing good! And FYI so far my stereo is 100% stock in the Tundra lol
