Toyota Oil

I went by my local dealership to get some Toyota oil from them. They looked at me like I was stupid, and made me feel stupid when they told me to use some Castrol oil. I want to change the oil myself, and I am under the impression that you should stick to the same oil. Does toyota oil exist or am I dreaming? This will be my first oil change. Thank you

 

Synthetic oil is synthetic oil.

Toyota doesn't make their own oil. I don't know who does, but I know GM and Honda oil is made by Mobil. Maybe Castrol makes Toyota's oil and that's why he suggested it.

I was watching behind me when I asked them the question about the oil. I did not want Jeff Daniels twin to hit me.

 

Oil is Oil, you don't have to stick to the same oil that came with the truck from the factory.
Just make sure you stay with the recommended oil viscosity for your engine and proper amount. All this information should be in the car's manual for any car that you may have.

It's kinda like a car company recommending a car battery that they make or a company they own, a 12v battery is a 12v battery no matter how you look at it.

A lot of TW members go with Mobil 1 synthetic oil, so go with that if you want to.

 

Does any one know what type /grade of oil come in a new 09 taco.

 

I know this is correct for the 4.0L V6... uses 5.2L of 5W30. I use Castrol GTX fwiw.

 

As far as I know the 09 oil weight is the same as previous models. Toyota certainly doesn't have a refinery, just like GM and Ford and others, any one of the big boys will provide labeled oil for them. The vettes all come with mobil 1 , so its a good bet that MR. Goodwrench oil is mobil......

Same old deal with oil changes , use a good quality oil that meets Toyotas spec's (in the manual) a good filter and change it out every 5K ......I think syn oil is better than dino oil but thats always up for discussion as we all know. Typically all good mechanics recommend frequent on time and mileage specific changes as the best maint procedure.

I use Toyota oil, they even have a part number for it : 00279-1QT5W

 

Just make sure to reinstall the 7I0 part after you get done.
