Acorn Damage

I've been wondering if it was possible to get hail type damage from acorns. My house has an 80 ft tall white oak tree that spans over the driveway. It was great for shade in the summer... but now the thing is dropping acorns non stop. No dents so far, but I have to assume that the acorns will get bigger later in the season. Time to look into trimming that monster back.

 

Haven't read the whole thread but 3 things come to mind...

#1. trim the hell outta the trees

#2. buy or build cover that's going to protect truck

#3. have beer next to truck in shade of new cover.

 

I vote for #3 !

 

Okay believe it or not I have an acorn story - I know, WTF, right?

I have many friends that are sherriff deputies, and I hang out often with a sergeant.

A lot of these guys have odd schedules, and sometimes they'll sneak off to "rest their eyes" in a thick wooded spot on a median or any other hiding spot.

The tactic they use is to nose up to a tree, stay a few inches away, and leave the car in DRIVE. They hold the brake down and rest their eyes. If they drift off, the car moves, gently hits the tree and it wakes them.

He has a guy that just got back from Iraq that needed a little "eye rest". This guy chooses to pull his cruiser up to an ACORN tree about 4 inches in diameter.

See where this is going? He drifts off and hits the tree - acorns are dropping on top of his car, and I guess it sounded like he was still in his HUMVEE taking rounds - he bursts awake and empties 6 rounds into his windshield.

That would have been a bad time to come across him and start smacking his hood, telling him to wake up, LOL

At least they aint walnuts. My Grandmother has one of those next to her driveway and a few have nailed her Buick.

 

So the sheet metal on these things can't handle... ACORNS? Wow. I knew it was thin, but that's ridiculous.

 

Acorns denting the hood? Really? wow, wouldnt expect that!

 

ACORN has fucked the whole country and your worried about your truck. Kinda selfish don't ya think.

i knwo the acorns you are talking about,,,,they fall in my driveway as well..only i park my truck in my garage....

Just cut the tree down. Problem solved.
