I just got a new android phone. It is the HTC Hero on Sprint. I have had it about a week, seems to be a real good operating system so far.

I think that phone is even running cupcake which is version 1.6. I think the droid is the first to have 2.0.

Looks like a pretty decent phone for once. This will require the use of a unlimited data plan, correct?

Anyone have any idea on the price w/ a two year contract?

I'm guessing to be competitive with iPhone and Palm Pre they will probably start at $199. I'm glad to finally see a phone that supports open dev.

That phone looks sweet! I can't wait to get rid of my BB Storm. My only concern is would you need an unlimited data plan or does it have wifi capabilities?

i dont think they are trying to be discrete about it, they are trying to be the ultimate "iphone killer"

i hate verizon with an unholy passion that cannot be describe in words. however, the only other provider worth a damn is ATT. i get a 20% discount on VZ plans through work, i get no discount with ATT. the only good phone ATT has is the iphone, but you have to pay an extra $30 a month for the stupid iphone plan. the droid is looking like a distinct possiblity for me. although i prolly dont need most the shit on it it will end up being about 30-35% less per month than the iphone. i just dont know if i can bring myself to give VZ my money

with the way VZ is handling shit you prolly need unlimited data. my gf just got the samsung rogue, which is not a data phone, but they require the cheap data plan to go with it. there is no way around it. so for a true data phone you will probably have to get unlimited data.

I'm just happy to have a open dev phone. Iphone is run by Hitler ... umm I mean Steve Jobs. I like the idea of being able to run whatever the hell I want on the phone without having to go through complicated "jailbreaking" every time there's an update or having to pay some schmuck to replace a battery that you should be able to replace yourself in 2 seconds. I think the iPhone is a cool phone. I just don't like Apple as a company.

i am still waiting out my Alltel plan. i get a letter form VZ every week saying i can upgrade to a VZ plan for free and drop my Alltel plan without breaking my contract. i just really dont want to get roped into another contract with VZ

i've always been a hardcore PC guy but i recently got a macbook and love it. no issues at all. but i agree, apple like their stuff too much and is greedy as hell. plus i hate how iwth the iphone you cant upgrade/replace your battery or add memory.

Looks like every other Motorola to me. IMHO.

I just see no attraction or that "I gotta have this phone" factors. NOTHING. I would much rather get a enV2 touch than that.

But I would get either cause I got an AWESOME iPhone.
