Vibration noise from factory air intake (snorkel)

The air intake snorkel that attaches to the wheel well vibrates at low idle speeds. I removed it and stopped making the noise. The Toyota dealer told me there is an updated part but costs $110. It's not covered under my extended warrenty. I was going to leave it out at least untill summer since it gets pretty hot here; the air from the wheel well is considerably colder. Obviously toyota knew this was a problem hence the updated part. Any chance I can get it for free?

There is a TSB for this problem. If you are under warranty they should fit it.

I had this problem since I bought the truck and only found the TSB after I was out of warranty. I had to fix mine on my own. I removed the intake and added some foam padding. There is already some padding where the intake goes into the fender, I just added a whole bunch of foam tape around the stock foam.

 

I have an '06 also, but do not have (yet) a vibration in that area. What is vibrating? Can you tape, caulk or glue it to stop the vibration?

I have an 06 too and noticed it had some foam wrapped around the end of the snorkel ( part that inserts into the fender). It would be the easiest fix to just get some foam weatherstripping and just wrap it around where the tube meets the fender.

 

Just around the tube where it inserts into the hole in the fender. The rattle comes from that plastic tube hitting up against the hole in the fender that it goes into.

 

WOW this sounds pretty familiar. I'm pretty sure it's happening on my truck. I noticed at first but I guess I just block it out now. Thanks for posting this and I'm gonna check it out as soon as I can. Subscribed.

I too had the TSB performed. I didn't even know about it but the darn 'vibration' from time to time when I was going ~50-60mph on the highway was driving me crazy!!! Fortunately my local dealership offered to fix it under warranty but they had to order the part... Definitely don't spend $110, just follow the advice above.

 

Any chance any of you could include a picture of the weatherstripping on the intake? (after you did the mod/fix)

Did you remove the foam first?
