Need a LOT of advice

Today I had a mishap on the road involving my Mustang, a pothole and the right side of my exhaust... I had no choice but to hit the hole since I couldn't go in to oncoming traffic and after telling my parents I got a call that basically went like this: "Dylan, I'm tired of hearing about how your cars are constantly needing repair, so the 1st week of November we are coming down and buying you a brand new ECONOMY CAR and are DONATING your Mustang to the kidney foundation..." So now I have the Daunting task of convincing my frugal parents that the Tacoma of choice is going to be better than any Eco Box we can find. But, with the help of you guys/gals I can have a better argument (hey I'm a good broadcast advertisement writer, but my dad gives anesthesia for a living and my mom treats children with cancer so it is gonna be a HECK of a task to do this right.) So please let me in on some of the best stuff you guys got.

 

Does anyone in the family have a PU Truck? If not that will help but be forewarned you will need to follow through and help out when needed.

I would assume that you will be talking about a 2.7L model 2WD. If you can swing it the Access Cab is worth the cost and the SR5 package is decent as well.

Expect the cost for an AC with no package to be around 21K. The benefit of no SR5 package is you can add the options you want as you go along.

I would also start pulling in safety facts and gas mileage facts.

I am a big guy and the base model access cab has plenty of room for me.

Did your parents buy you the mustang?

If yes.....What were they thinking? They should've bought you the ugliest, smallest, cheapest economy car they could find. That is, until you can handle the responsibilities of owning something nicer....and that means.... repairing & maintaining your own vehicle!

Take what you can get especially if your parents are flipping the bill.

Dude, I didn't have a car until I was 18 and I had to pay for it myself!!!

Any car in either one of the two photos would look the same. Any car or PU truck will never win in a head on or sandwich situation with a dump truck or tractor trailer.

 

Yep, your best bet is be grateful for what you have comeing.

Thats crazy. I had to buy and work for everything I wanted

 

My dad grudgingly co-signed a note on my first truck ever (I think it cost $2700) when I was 15, I had to pay for it my self. Any vehicles or anything for that matter since then have been purchased by me after working for it.

While I'm sure you would love a Tacoma, I can't help but think about how spoiled you sound.

 

I co-signed a loan for both my boys... and told them if they missed a payment, their vehicles would become mine

Boy that is a fact!!!
My wife and myself have had to purchase our own vehicles.
We in turn have done this with our children. We helped arrange financing when needed but they pay every dime of the vehicle, gas, and insurance.

Not saying you do not appreciate the free "ride" but unless you make them a deal to pay them back then humble yourself and show them appreciation for the very generous gift.

 

Chris is right. The best you can do is say "I'd like to have a Tacoma. What do you think?". Maybe they'll say "OK" or maybe they'll say "F%@$ no you ungrateful turd! You'll take what we buy you or you'll get NOTHING!".
