Most of the limitations for installs in the tacoma are determined by mounting depth. By default of the way most subwoofer baskets are designed, most 12's are deeper than their 10 and 8" brothers.

    from what i've also seen
most are asking about double cabs which have smaller space for the sub

Toytec ultimate lift kit, light racing UCAs, ARB bumper and full skid plates underneath. Looking into redoing the suspension and maybe repainting the ol' Taco.
Yep, there are a few shallow mount 12s that will work, but for the most part you are limited to 10s and 8s due to mounting depth. You have to be careful, even with 10s and 8s, as the depths of some of them are even too great to go behind the seat of a double cab.

With the access cab, the most useful design is the one that mounts the sub in a box that doubles as an arm rest in between the seats.

Do you guys have any insight into the JL 10 stealthbox that mounts in the center console, so you can still use the back seats? It looks great, but they want $600 for it. Ouch.

I put an infinity reference 10 in mine. I had to build a custom sealed box to fit behind the seat. I still had to take a router and rout out about 1/4 inch deep recess where the magnet was hitting the box. The sub is also mounted at the very bottom of the box too. You can get slim magnet subs but most big box retail places dont carry them.

It took me a little while to get used to the 10 since it doesn't pack quite as much punch as the infinity Kappa 12 I had in my old accord in a sealed box. Once I got the crossover points, gain, bass levels, etc tuned I am happy with the sound.

I have the access cab, so behind the seats is out for me. Plus, I dont want to lose what little seating I have in the back, so the center console sub is the only thing I can think to do. It looks nice, but you have to hack up the console to get it in. Its always something...

heres the box I built for my 10" type-R Alpine. Sounds pretty decent for a 10, though I kinda wish I had a little more once in a while. I need to get a better amp though, so maybe that'll make a difference.

Nice. That looks like a decent size box for a 10, nice job with the finish and sizing. Does that keep you from opening the back seats without removing the box?

Not much yet, got a pretty good sound system w/ my custom sub box. Plan on adding more lights & a tool box.
1 - 12" Pyle Driver sub behind dr. side seat. Check out my photos for the build. Can't member the mounting depth. It's gotta be 5-1/2" or so.

Thanks. It's a decent size(about .75 cu ft), but its actually a tad small for the type-R, but with a little polyfill inside I get away with it. Yeah, ive got to move it out of the way, but its easy. It just fits snugly so you can lift it up and out of the way. And I have quick disconnects for the wiring if I want it entirely out of the truck for some reason.:)

Stu, I hadnt thought of the possibility of putting one on the floor instead. I tow a boat and have all of my accessories on the drivers back seat storage, so I have to get in there often. But, I could put a box on the passenger side floor...

You do lose the flip-down seat on that side, but I don't use it anyways. I still have access to the storage area too. Ping me if you plan on gong this way, I did run across a couple of "gotchas".
