2nd Gen Stock Headlamps with Aftermarket HID Bulbs - Pics Wanted

I've seen a lot of pictures of HID bulbs in aftermarket projector housings. Does anyone have night pictures of them in stock headlamp housings. I'm looking for as many color temps as possible. I couldn't find a thread with pics.

The reason I ask, is that I've heard that projector lenses tend to make things look more blue-ish due to dispersion and refraction at the edge of the beam pattern. I read somewhere online that it's not as pronounced in non-projector lens housings, so where a 4300k bulb might look rather blue in a projector, it will look different in a reflector like the ones in our stock headlamps.

It is hard to take photos when the HID is ON.
It have to see it by yourself. I have 6000K H/L Beam. It work great, but under one condition, the buldsonly great for about a year & half, than it will not that bright, but it is still brighter than the OEM lights.

Wow that is incredibly irresponsible and unsafe to run them without protectors...not to mention illegal

 

At this time, they still dose. But you have to think what you pay for. Old days I have to pay 550.00 for a dual beam HID, now only 200.00
So what you think!!

 

According to many people on here the bi-xenon bulbs have precisely the same beam cutoff as halogen bulbs in a stock housing. Is that misinformation? Perhaps this would be better suited for the lighting forum.

Edit: I figured it was manufacturing cost coming down.

 

I will cost as much with a lame PNP kit and after market projector headlights. I am saying for my retro now. And yosh is gonna help since he is local.

Wrong...horrible glare, hotspots, etc. Not to mention horrible thrown light. You need to do it right by doing a complete HID retro as I mentioned above.

$225 - projectors and ballasts
$35 - bulbs
$100 - nearly new headlights
$100 - other misc stuff.

That's far more than a PNP kit.

Edit: I guess if you throw in an aftermarket housing you're approaching that cost. I don't want new housings though.

They're illegal regardless if you put them in the stock halogen housings or if you do a complete projector retrofit.

As far as the OP's question, the actual color temp isn't going to change. It will look the same on the road. If you had 4300k bulbs in actual HID projectors than yes depending on the angle you look at them from you will get that purplish/blue color that you see with the Audi's, BMW's, etc. But if you look at them straight on, it's still pure white light. The projector just refracts part of the light beam and you only get the blue part of the light spectrum depending on how you look at it. But your color on the road is the same.

I had a kit in the Impala SS I had with the stock halogen housings. Glare wasn't an issue with those lights. Light didn't get dispersed all goofy. Some cars are really bad though. I'd never put HID's in a truck without projectors since it sits up higher and would be more prone to blinding someone. Also, regarding goofy light dispersion, if you get cheap ebay projector lights they usually disperse the HID's light a lot worse than the halogen housings would. So if you're going to go HID you should really just do an actual retrofit with actual HID projectors. Still not technically street legal though.

 

I have had my hid's for about 6 months now and have never had anyone flash me or anything. My friends in there cars and trucks drive by me at night and they never said anything about being blinded by my lights. Yes i know its not as good as a "retro fit" but when you can give me a few hundred dollars then i will do it. I plan on doing it sooner or later but i dont have the money right now. And if i were to get flashed all the time or told they blind people, I would simply put the stock ones back in place. But that has not happened yet so there staying were they are. And the retro fit also looks badass haha. But i will try to post pics later tonight of the cut off beam if i can. Im useing my phone cause my computer isnt working so i will if i can.

 

I am currently running 8K HID Projectors in my headlights that I got painted BSP to match the truck...I am also running 8K HIDs in my fogs...I got them off my buddy who owns Luminous Solutions...

I can get pictures when I get off of work today at 5pm (in 3 hours)...I will update my post later...I do have pics of the HIDs installed but not on if you would like to see...just let me know...

 

This is my setup when i had 5k 50w hid, but now im running 8k didnt really like the cream look....

 

I loved the 5000k kit I had in my Impala SS. Then again I was going more for function over form. Not a fan personally of anything over 6000k.
