I have a 2.7 5 speed 08 4x4 tacoma. I have changed the tranny oil in it about 3 months ago to smooth it out a little. Now I have this area on the transmission that always has a little gear oil residue on it. I will clean it and wipe it off but it comes back. Not dripping, but always wet. In the picture it is where the two separate units come together (the brown metal)...maybe transfer case? what is this? Is it bad? Thanks for the help guys.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Looks like the sealant may be bad. Did you just drain and fill or tear it down when you changed the oil?

I am not sure what the questions is but I just drained out the bottom and filled in the top side. I can check the plugs but those don't seem to have gear oil around them...

What do you mean the sealant may be bad?

I see Red RTV sealant between the aluminum and steel.

By military standards, this wouldnt deadline a vehicle! LOL

By my standards, I would try to fix it until it breaks. But really, that doesnt seem to be anything to worry about. As long as there are not continuos drips or rapid fluid loss.
