What onboard air kit?

I need to throw an air kit on and I'm not sure what kind to get. I want one that can fill my tires pretty quick and be able to run at least an impact wrench on it. Any ideas?

 

I went for CO2.

A 20# will fill 30+/- tires, runs an impact just fine and it costs $12 to refill it.

What do you think about the small air compressors with the air reservoir?

 

but i have a onboard air for now its not to fast but it works great seach for the mv50

 

I have a viair OBA i bought a 1.5 gal kit off ebay for a reasonable price like $250 or something and i had bought a bigger compressor for the kit beforehand love it unlimited air as long as i have power.

 

I researched the heck out of the air compressors. If you want to fill 4 tires quickly after they have been aired down you need to have an air compressor with 100% duty cycle and an onboard tank. You need to do the install yada, yada, yada. This type of system gets to be expensive very quickly.

With an air compressor system the most important thing to consider is duty cycle. That is the amount of time the compressor runs and rests. Cheap compressors may have a 15% duty cycle and it will take forever to fill your tires because the compressor must rest 85% of the time.

After all my homework I bought the basic CO2 setup. You just need the 150 psi regulator with a 2,000 psi relief valve to control the pressure coming from the bottle. You don't need a dual guage setup to tell you the bottle pressure and the discharge pressure. Use a tire guage and the bottle pressure is constant pressure relative to the ambient tempature. So as long as there is liquid in the bottle there is pressure in the bottle. CO2 bottles are not similiar to air tanks, with air tanks the internal air pressure tells you how much air is in the tank.

Plus the CO2 system is portable. I drag it around the shop instead of my air compressor when I use my air tools.

 

Can you still do daily driving on C02 filled tires?

 

of course you can daily drive with CO2 in the tire....but the one thing about the CO2 set ups like POWERTANK is that they dont work when its cold out

 

co2 is the same thing thats in your tires now its just air

 

I just didn't know if either sitting and geting cold, or the heat from driving on the street for a bit would effect the gas that's keeping it inflated.

And can you run an impact whrench off this co2 setup?

 

yep you can thats why they are cool but when there out you have to take it to get filled 3000psi

 

what's so bad about something like this?

only $35 if you buy it in the next hour or so. For the average person, would this not be handy to keep in your truck just in case?

i use a mv50 right now im going to order a tank and the check valve presser switch and do it the right way soon

 

I just received this killer CO2 setup that I won on ebay for $202. The system was brand new and it came with everything (retails for$460)
This is what they call the 10lb tank and that goose bottle is the 1.75 liter bottle for comparison

 

How well/fast does it fill your tires after being aired down? Can you run an impact off this setup?

 

This compressor would be perfect for "just in case". The thing it won't do is run air tools or fill all 4 tires to 30 psi from say 10 psi in a very timely manner. I could not find the duty cycle in the details but the compressors with higher duty cycle cost closer to $150+.
