ok as you may or may not know a few weeks ago my engine started smoking so i pulled over and called a tow truck and they took my truck to toyota....

well $250.00 later they told me it was a "rodent" that ate through your coolent line...

so i i left today to get some stuff done and my mom called me and said theres rubber all over the ground underneath my engine where this "rodent" had been chewing...

so i turned around and came home to look at my engine and lines and stuff and i found this
to say the least im pretty angry so i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem? cuz toyota says its an everyday accurance but i thought it was BS cuz it has never ever happened to my parents with any of there cars...

so im gonna get some rat poison to see if that helps..

any input is appreciated on how to solve this problem

My mom had a squirrel or rat hiding in her engine bay in her Civic. Started the car 1 morning and it got caught in the belts....

Put some glue traps around the tires and catch him so you can make him pay.
A quick pellet shot to the head ought to do it.
I'd want to know I eliminated the sucker; not just wonder if I got him.

Can you park somewhere else? On one side of my old driveway was really grown up (bushes, trees, etc) Always had critters making nests on top of my intake manifold, and even got a snake wrapped up in there one time (probably trying to get at the rats) I moved my truck over to the other side away from the woods (about 30-40 feet) and that seemed to take care of it...

Take an old sock, put in a handful of old fashion mothballs and secure it to something on a fenderwell or firewall. Will keep most pests away. I have seen a lot of expensive rodent damage to vehicles over the years and have never seen mothballs not work. Some people can't stand the smell of them though.

Happened to me last winter. We got a good cold snap in south Florida and it was enough to make a rodent climb up in the engine bay for warmth. It chewed through some sensor wiring that caused the check engine lt. Had to have the entire intake manifold removed to gain access to replace it. Insurance covered it though.

I had a rat a couple months ago eat 1 of my spark plug wires. I used those same green poison squares. They work, but it took about 5 days for it to finally kill the rat. A word of advise, Do not drive with the poison on your engine. It will melt and be impossible to clean off.

a few years back my 4-runner all the sudden had the engine throttle rev up and down. Had it taken to dealer. he came out to explain, then stated " just follow me".
he takes me into the shop, pulls open the air filter box and shows me a hole chewed through the airfilter, and some seeds in the corner of the box. the seeds got sucked in and jammed the throtle. unfortunetly, warrentee didnt cover mice
