So got the ring of death after talking on here about not getting it... It finally came. But thats not the worse part... I got it prolly 3 years ago to this day so they said the warranty is out. Should i pay the $100 to have it fixed or fix it myself. BTW IM SOOOO PISSSED!!!

Damn man that blows... mine gets the rings once a month and i need to shut it down and let it sit. Instead of fixing it have you thought about getting a PS3, when my dies thats what ill be getting, that blue ray player is the deal breaker for me.

fix it yourself, looks very easy. If I ever get it (knock on wood) I plan on doing it myself. I figure I can't harm it any more than it already is.

It doesn't fix the problem, its just a bandaid solution.

Here's a how to article I found for how to fix it, but you might want to cross check some other sites, just to get some other ideas.

Look at the back of your xbox and it has the manufacture date. Does it show an error? I had the E74 error a couple weeks ago. They wanted me to pay, but microsoft has extended the warranty 3 years for this error. Look at the support page for info. I shipped mine in free of charge, and I'm told its a 2 to 3 week turnaround from the day you send it in.

yeah i'm on my 4th xbox 360, actually i'm waiting for my 4th one to come back from the infamous ring of death. thats weird that they wouldn't fix it for free cause mine was 3 years out of warrenty and they still did mine for free, maybe cause i bitched at them and told them that their product was shit, and that i was getting sick of sending mine out. (oh yeah i have 2 because i bought another when i sent out my first one, so this one i'm getting back is actually 3 years past the warrenty)

Funny thing is, I've gotten the ring of death 3 times exactly..

My roommate and I got the RRoD a few months ago and opted to fix ourselves. The fix is pretty simple. All you do is reapply the heatsink paste and put everything back together. If you've every put a computer together you already know how to do this. Unfortunately a week later the graphics card went. Basically, it's a gamble.
