I agree with all of that, but if you make a lot of short trips where the fluids don't warm up (I have a 4 mile drive to/from work) it'll certainly help wreck your mileage.

I agree OP... I was pushing 22 mpg over the summer, now im getting a little over 20. Nothing has changed in driving habits :spy: so I don't know what exactly the problem is :notsure:

Same boat here. Mine has dropped much more than it has in previous winters though. All within a tank or two of gas, I added air to the tires (and rotated), put in a new air filter, changed the oil to synthetic, and replaced the spark plugs. I'm hoping that will help a little bit. I was at 42K and still on the original plugs. They were opened up some, especially the NGKs.

I keep close track of my mileage to help keep an eye out for indications of issues. This shows my steady decline since summer fairly well...

Big drop in MPG for me too. I got the truck in March and by summer I was getting between 19 and 21 MPG. The colder it got the more it dropped. Last tank was 16. I always fill up at the same station with SUNOCO 93 and usually the same pump on Sunday. Must be the gas, same route to work, same time, same travel time and same distance no other change except the time of year. It may be the winter season but the temperature is not always that much different than before my mileage dropped. If it takes more gas to go the same distance under the same circumstances, how is it beneficial to the environment or anyone else except the oil co. and the tax man. Winter gas is a BIG scam.

Which leads to a more closed down butterfly in the throttle so more pumping losses. One of the downsides of a gas engine compared to the diesel engine. Everything's against us in cold temp.

Huge drop for me. I'll be lucky to get 350km's on a tank during the winter season

been getting 15 mpg 90% highway/ 10% city miles. During summer I get 22 mpg w/ the same ratio. Anyone know the mechanics on the cold vs warm weather for a drop in mpg?

I use flypaper. Less effort. Fewer gustatory mishaps.

I experience about the same decrease with my 4 cyl. EspeciAlly on shorter trips where a big % of the fuel energy was used to warm up the engine

You Taco guys need to stop complaining. I only run 265/75/16 inch Duratrac's and a 2" mini lift in my Frontier and get bad mileage all year round. Summer my average was 16.5 and thats 60% Freeway. I also drive it very easy.

Oregon runs the BS 10% ethenol all year round so it doesnt appear that winter mileage drops as dramatically as last tank I got around 15 or so.
