Anyone recommend Fumoto drain valve?

Ive heard good and bad things or any other recommendations for quick oil changes.

 

I installed one after I bought my Tacoma a few months ago. If you get one, make sure it is the one with the hose attachment. I did a lot of searching here and other sites to find anyone that has had issues but everyone seemed to be happy.

Pros: easy to install, easy to use, it sits high enough above the bottom of my skid plate that I am not worried about it getting hit off

Cons: if you are looking for "faster" oil changes, this probably won't help. Due to the smaller valve, it flows about 1/2 as fast. It is still faster to get the old wrench out to pull the traditional plug and drain

I have only used it for a couple of oil changes so far, so I am hoping others chime in with their thoughts for you

 

The drain bolt doesn't seem to be the limiting issue with doing an oil change... it's that dang filter (at least on the 3.4). I don't see what this gets you.

The first time I did my oil change on my 07 - the oil came out soooo damn fast, it splattered everywhere. I got the Fumoto and it's been great!!
It take a little longer to drain.....which, I often start the drain process and I walk away and do other things while its draining. No tools needed....

I don't offroad either...
If you offroad, I wouldn't recommend it because it sticks down and you could knock it off on the terrain.

 

You don't need any tools.

In terms of the 3.4L.... Take a 2 litre bottle and cut the bottom (or top) off to make yourself a 4" deep bowl (so to speak). Squeeze that up underneath the filter - then, unscrew the filter and allow the oil to drain into it. I'll even drop the filter in it....You'll have to carefully manuever the bowl (filled with oil/filter).

Oh yeah...I hope you know its easier to take the wheel off also.

 

I appreciate the tip of using the 2 liter bottle. I have been using a plastic bag but I think I'll try your suggestion. I have access to a hydraulic lift and getting to the filter and drain bolt is not a problem. It's minimizing the mess of the filter for me.

As far as the drain valve goes, I guess I'm just old fashioned and prefer the security and integrity of a drain bolt.

 

I have it on my truck and would highly recommend it.

However, its not meant for "quick" oil changes, but actually slower. I like it because of the fact that its less messy and you only have to worry about installing it correctly the first time. No need to take the drain bolt on and off everytime with the possibility of over-torquing/stripping the threads.

Part number is F-103N. The "N" is for the nipple which you can attach a hose to reduce the chance of spilling.

 

thanks everyone. I just wanted to find the cleanest ways to do a oil change . I also just read that there is a separate drain for the filter on the engine. If you can drain that little valve you can remove the filter with no mess. I haven't checked my truck for it yet though. Has anyone else seen the secondary valve?

That separate drain for the filter is only on the 2nd generation trucks.

BG04Taco - Did you ever get the "oil change wonder"? If so, how is it working out for you?

 

No I did not there is only one company that made them and they no longer make them. I thought it was a good idea.

 

My only worry would be there is no magnet. If you have metal shavings in your oil you are going to want to get to them before they "Get to you". Just change the plug gasket now and then. It's cheeper than an engine!
