how to assembly struts by yourself..

    ok since i helped out that member a couple weeks ago i decided to just throw on here for you guys how to assemble some eibach springs with collars (these instructions may also help with the "stock" support just make sure you place the correct one on the correct side). Some of the pics will kind of be out of place.

    *i am not liable to a spring killing you or any other harm it may bring

    tools need:
    springs compressor (autozone)
    we used channel locks haha

    parts needed:
    2 shocks
    2 springs
    2 collars
    2 lower cushion retainers
    2 cushions
    2 upper cushion retainers
    (all part numbers available on the TSM)

    1. first you gotta make sure the c-clips is seated where you want it to be for what lift your looking to get, i chose the lowest setting. for those with collars (or stock support) just place it over.

    2. secondly i went to auto zone and rented some coil clamps, you put those on the coil. make sure when you put the on the put the coil on the shock so that when your putting the compressed coil on the shock the lower clamp doesnt interfere with putting in on securely. tighten the clamps until you can place the top plate on and fit the cushion and cushion retainers on.

    3. after the coil is compressed place the spring on the shock. put on the top plate. with these assembles there is a lower retainer, cushion and upper retainer. put each on in the order then place the nut on top.

    4. after placing all those on your going to need to tighten it. when you start tightening it you will notice the shock absorber rod will turn as well simple hold that in place while you tighten the nut. also at this time make sure the top plate studs line up accordingly, refer to the TSM for how they go.

    5. after tightening the top plate on (TSM says 20 ft/lbs, its hard to judge so do it till theres about 1/4-1/2" of thread showing from the rod) slowly remove the spring compressors, easing each side a little then going to the other.

    6. final product in less than 30 min. a shop was gonna charge me 100 bucks to do it, no way man much better places to spend my money.

    they held up great for me and i eye balled it for right now and left my collar adjustment all the way down and i can by hand (with a little force) move the top plate to the position i will need it for install then once on the truck use my spanner to crank them up a little bit. but your right its not perfect until your in there and see position the hole with the top plate studs

    hope no one got hurt when the springs compressor broke on you!

    Yeah. I saw that when I went to order stuff. A bit steep if you ask me, the DIY method is cheap, but make me kind of nervous, especially with some 882's. I don't want to die. :D

    Being as they use new stuff (OEM), $50.00 per top plate, $20.00 + per spring isolator, plus studs and nuts, its really not a bad deal.

    What this joker said totally makes sense. 100 bones for just the top plates. I think I paid 30 apiece for the isolaters. I skipped the retainers for some grade 8 washers. So you are talking about 180 or so just in parts. And then 40 bones for the work is pretty fair.

    If you are going to pre-build them...Yes.

    The top plate holds the stock struts together...and the isolators can be reused depending on condition.

    So I bought top plates from someone here at reduced cost to build mine up...but bought the new isolators. If you have the time to take the stock parts out...take the struts apart....and build the new ones up....you can do that.
