New Taco Boat puller

Hello all.

I'm in MD and need to outfit my tacoma rear end with a better pulling setup.

Been lurking all over the forum readin up on stuff. Thanks for all the advice. Tower's bible is a great source, wish i found that a couple years ago...lol Lots of accurate info in there.

Either way I'm torn between purchasing some or all of the following to compliment my shity rear end:

-add a leaf
-5100 bils all around
-Timbren bump stop or Riderite air bags...really torn between this one.

The pic below is what im pulling...she, the trailor and gas weigh in @ 6000lbs. Pullin with stock suspension has been ROUGH...not much handling. Thanks to this forum I decide what i need to purchase and hopefully complete the install with only minor cuts and bruises.

Farthest we trailer is about 3 hours a couple times a year. Usually were just enroute to the local ramp. Its barely under the max tow capacity...but like I said really need to augment the rear suspension.

Dude,you need an f-150 with 5.4. i bet your transmission is screaming HELP ME!

 

Wow I couldn't imagine pulling that boat with a Tacoma. Not say that it cannot pull it, but I have a 18 ft Four Winns and with that and the bed loaded down with all the gear I can feel the weight. How does it do on the 3 hour drives? What is your mpg pulling that? Nice looking boat!

 

Thanks! In drive @ 65mph I get to my destination with a little less then a quarter tank left. Towing really isnt that bad... I have pulled with a V8 SUV and it actually pulls better with the Tacoma.

My only complaint is the rear suspension. It basically rest on the bump stops the whole ride. It all works but can't be good for the long run. Pulls the boat out of the water just fine no matter what the ramp looks like. The trailer has brake assist, if not for that I would have some big problems.

Yeah I know it has the power but didn't know how it would be on the boat ramp and handling something of that size. I'm glad it does well I'm considering trading my boat in for a 20-23ft boat that is approx. the same weight as yours and was wondering how if the Tacoma would be up to it or not. I have already planned on getting the rear air bags so hopefully with the rear end the truck would be good to go towing something that size and weight.

 

Solution Airbags I have firestones and the ran me about $400.00. I pull a 26 ft toyhauler that weighs over 6500lbs when loaded. I also regeared but if you say the only problem is the suspension airbags airbags airbags did you do the TSB for the rear leafs?

 

Did you have to modify anything for your airbags to work with the lift?

 

No modification at all I think we just removed the rear bump stops, I'll check later and let you know

Thanks for sharing your tow set-up. I have not done the TSB for the AAL's, I plan on addin the leafs / shocks / and either airbags or timbrens when the ground starts to thaw. Once i figure out exact model numbers for stuff ill start canvasing the net for the best deals.

 

Nice boat! I don't mind to own the boat if I live near by ocean. Like few hours away will be fine. I don't like to boat near by lake. Felt like boring.
