Well first of all, that God I am fine. Last week I had an accident where I spun and hit the barrier on the freeway.

My truck was in excellent condition, I am little concerned on how it will turn out if the insurance company decides to repair it.

Here I have some pictures, I am waiting for the body shop to tear down as requested by the insurance company to verify if there is any frame damage using a computer machine.

So far the body shop preliminary estimate is around $10,000 without the front suspension, without frame damage and without bed floor damage. I am pretty sure the preliminary estimate will go up since the front suspension I think got some damage as well as the rear bed floor, not sure about the frame.

Look how the paint in the cab cracked in the driver side, just where the cab and the bed meet.

    Thanks everybody for your replies!!

Should I be concerned if the insurance decides to fix it?

I really like this truck, I bought it used 5 months ago with 51,000 miles as a commuter/mountain bike hauler. I love the newest generation Tacoma but buying a new one would not be practical, since I also have a pretty new car, a 2007 STi Limited.

If it is declared total loss, I guess I will have to search for a another 2004 Tacoma, but its going to be hard, since I am quite demanding with my cars condition.

My advice would be to start looking for a new truck now. If preliminary estimate is $10K, they are going to find something else, not to mention that's atleast half the value of the truck. Your gonna have to get a new bed, fender, hood, grill, front and rear bumpers, plus all the labor, and paint. I'm willing to bet that you'll be getting a new truck.

I think its total loss too. If the insurance company let you bring it to any body shop and not one of their "recommended" shops, then bring it to a reputable shop to have it estimated. The reputable shops generally estimate higher than insurance estimates. If it is high enough, they will declare it total loss.

As for finding a new truck, new 2nd gen tacos are just too awesome to not consider. I started out looking for 1st gen tacos and ended up getting a brand new 2nd gen taco. I don't regret it one bit. So if you can handle the payments, go for a 2nd gen taco.

Seem like insurance wants to give it a try to at least determine if it is fixable. From what heard insurance companies evaluate all factors like tires condition, milage, interior conditions and others before declaring it totaled.
I am afraid that the insurance company might lowball me if The car is totaled.

I don't know if they go by KBB retail value or private buyer value, etc. or NADA book.

I will keep you guys updated.
