    Hey guys
I just did a couple of little things to the Taco. I had a couple questions anyway and I thought I'd just put pics of everything in here.

First, I did the deck plate mod. I got a 4" deckplate off ebay for like $1 and the shipping was $8. I picked up some silicone from Oreillys and got to work.

When I had it all apart, I noticed this and thought it looked cool. THIS is why we use air filters...
    IMG_1835_33c4611152c6ec8a8efa6312280d7ba188dfa206.jpg

Then I got my pattern traced around it

    IMG_1837_6f79531dd7826fa79d8e0438635437193e567f67.jpg

I tried cutting it with a dremel first, but I broke like 4 cutting wheels and got about 3 inches around it. I switched to the jig saw and it worked a lot better, just had to get a little creative in avoiding the pipe inside.

    IMG_1838_e25b87948d8ae3d7ccde038a5862ebf700effc0a.jpg

Put the plate in. I used these random screws I found in the basement to keep costs at a bare minimum (plus it was Sunday and the hardware store was closed). They came out of some door hinges at some point.

    IMG_1839_fcb0d6badb8c1a8872fbca7ef06183c92b51fe67.jpg

And I gooped it up. I put a bead on the plate before I put it in, then I globbed it on on the back side.

    IMG_1840_44c26b845fbfc4664cc53f2993d9a1111492411a.jpg

    Then I re-installed it

    Open

    IMG_1841_aba9e7f8594c6cad31511c9993d5e5fae9d849e2.jpg

    Closed

    IMG_1842_0840307a61045e50bc71d50b0e872403419dd8e6.jpg

I think i might not have cut the hole quite big enough. The plate spun in and out really easy when I got it, but now that it's installed It's a pita to get to spin in. I think the hole is too small and I tweaked the ring when I jammed it in.
I've also noticed an annoying whistle that I'm assuming is coming from the hole that's right at 40 mph. Has anyone else noticed this?
    AND
Do the 4 bangers have 2 silencers? I'm assuming this is one:
    IMG_1836_474570d3e433d3cf027f3622cab153a5528aac99.jpg
I didn't see the other kinda hook shaped one under there.
I took pics with the intention of doing a write up for the 4 cylinder air box, but do you think it's worth it? I'll do it if anyone thinks it'll be helpful, but I don't know if it's different enough from the 3.4 to be worth it.

Next, I put in a 2 piece Carriage Works billet grille i found on craigslist and bought for $30. It wasn't really on my "to do" list of mods, but for 30 bucks I couldn't afford not to.
For some reason, I decided to do this on the coldest day of the year. That's just snow and ice on the bumper.
Here is a before (kinda a bad pic, but it was in the garage)

    IMG_1843_8bb13c4d6030a1274b8ba4cc7895d775972124ac.jpg

After much staring at it and scratching my head, I got the grille out (once I figured out that the corner lights had to come out it was pretty easy, you just gotta pull the right way and it slides right out)

    IMG_1844_f2f99a1aaeb0cefeb06c7b7677d63e16572031f7.jpg

Then I masked it off and cut the old grille out. I'd definitely mask it off and leave the tape there until the grille goes back on the truck. When I brought it inside the snow started to melt off and the tape kinda got wet and fell off. I then nicked it with the dremel and pissed myself off. It isn't bad, but it still made me angry.

    IMG_1845_fe091057170ac284cc7a6a71e4c3ce2958788fa1.jpg

Then I put the new grille in (after realizing the shell was upside down in the last pic )

    IMG_1848_4f01f42ea7df1f87f681354cedbacddb0a04df7c.jpg

And I put it back on the truck and put the lower piece in.

    IMG_1852_00c3489dd597a4a115ecb9997675f0b4d4c6781d.jpg

I think it kinda looks funny since it's the only thing thing that isn't stock. I think after a couple more mods it'll really look good, it's just a case of "wrong mod first".

Anyway thanks for looking and thanks for any help you can give me on the whistle/silencers.

good job man! never noticed a whistling sound with my deck plate mod. i took my silencer off, the one u have a pic of, & put a 3 liter bottle cap in its place. i drilled 2 small holes in the cap & stuck a piece of aluminum wire thru it & bent both ends of the wire, then stuck it in & tightened the clamp. never had a problem with it!

    Thanks
So is this the only silencer? I haven't looked again since I did it, but I will in a minute when I go out to measure for the cap. I gotta go to the hardware store and figured I'd get a cap for the silencer while I'm there.

Ok, I looked around and didn't see anything anywhere else. here's what I came up with for a cap:

    IMG_1854_6829233c2d0cdeb8abc137ec8d81ccedb15e9a1c.jpg

It's a rubber stopper like the ones that go on the end of a crutch or cane. Is this what everyone else did? Or did you guys just cap off the box and put it back in? It looks kinda flimsy, but it's pretty solid and I gave it a good yank and it's not going anywhere. Should I leave it as is or did someone find a better plug?

    Looks great!

Keep an eye on that plug. When I tested my 2.7 without it, the pipe cover I used to block the hole fell out a few times. If it does this, you will be sucking in unfiltered air. I found no gains, so just put the factory peice back in.

I've noticed a lot better sound out of it at all rpms when I get on the gas without the silencer box on. I will keep an eye on the plug. I have two and I guess if they both fall out I'll but the box back on.
