Rear Spring TSB Done: How to Balance the Front?

Got the rear spring TSB done last week and took the truck out to Calico on Saturday. The rear end is a bit stiffer (I noticed when dropping off rocks and ledges) but handled very well. However, I noticed that the front end was bobbing around more than in the past. I believe the stiffer rear springs were transferring energy to the stock front springs and I thinking I'll probably need a heavier duty front spring.

Any thoughts or experience on this?

 

TSB with Belsteins 5100 adjustable shocks up front.
I have mine set at .85. The shocks are much better firmness, matching the back.
The TSB raised the back about 1 inch, so hense the .85 setting.
I believe the 1.75 setting is also quite common if trying to level the truck out more.

did they do an alignment?

raising the rear of the truck will change the angles on the front, which is why you have to do a front alignment after rear suspension work. many people report they dont get it done when the tsb clearly calls for it.

if not, i would go back and nicely demand they do it per tsb instructions.

i do not think you need heavier front springs over basically an aal on a new pack. many will prob be jumping in saying to get blistien 1500's though to raise the front up a bit to match the rear.

persoanlly id wait a while, the rear will sag some. id wait for the new pack to break in before making your decisions. i wouldnt want to match the front to the rear, only for the rear to sag back down some. you may indeed find the front is lower, and 1500's or aftermarket coils may be the way to go in the end though.

 

I went with the Eibach 1.6" springs in the front after the TSB and I couldn't belive how much better it rides and feels over stock.

 

same here...eibach and 5100 up front at the zero setting which gave me 1.6 inches of lift. Leveled out the truck very well. Not to mention it handles and rides better now.

 

hey what did you tell the dealer to get them to do the TSB?

 

They definitely aligned the truck - the steering wheel is a bit crooked now.

I don't think I necessarily need front springs, either, but maybe heavier duty shocks. This isn't a matter of how the truck sits, I don't think, but dampening the energy transferred to the front end from the back axle.

I'll look into 5100s... I like the idea of an adjustable ride height.

 

with the billys, get a good alignment and thats it.
i have had no vibrations, or rubbing issues at all.
even on highway doing 75-80

 

I noticed no change in the front after the rear TSB spring install. The rear was stiffer and it does a good job. I felt no need to modify the front suspension.

 

I told them the truck swayed like a drunken sailor when I had four bales of hay (~500 lbs) in the bed and, that when towing a trailor, the ride was rough and the rear sagged. Called Toyota first, but didn't really need that with my dealership.

 

I noticed in my new 2010 that my rear end bounces around crazy. Would the tsb fix this? And if I plan I getting an aal with billies all around would I really need the tsb? My dealers being a dick about the tsb.

 

I told the dealer I put a quantity of 20, 40 lb bags of mulch in the truck and it bottomed out going over most any kind of bump. I told them it banged so hard I was concerned I was going to bend or brake something.

The dealer jumped right on it.
