When I test drove the Frontier, I felt like it sounded like the motor was struggling. Sounded way too loud.

when i baught the truck in 07, i knew the truck was powerful and fast, but i didn't know how fast... my good buddy has an 04 f-150 and he thought his v8 was bad ass, but was blown away when when we took out trucks to the drag strip....he's been buying bs engine upgrades ever since lol. sorry, i know this is supposed to be about frontiers, but i just had to tell the story and say that between the light weight and pretty powerful V6, these things move!

Not meant for speed. Got one in my mom's Expedition, and we use it for towing a heavy boat. The trucks weigh 3 tons.

they have lots of torque that is good for that....but the funny thing is that he only has the bumper hitch ball that is only rated for like 3500 lbs or something like that...so he's burning gas money for no reason

tell me about it...i was watching his tachometer when i ws riding with him, and the thing has to rev op to almost 4000 before it shifts in order to acelerate at a normal rate you would from a red light (for refference, mine revs to about 1800 before shifting with norman driving)

The off the line performance or lack thereof consistantly comes up on the Frontier forums. There is some sort of computer related throttle restriction that that does not allow WOT until above 30 mph (something like that). Only way to remove it is to add a tuner.

I never hammer on mine as it sucks too much gas as it is, but every so often I have to get a little aggresive on the freeway and punch it and it is quick, but of course I am above 30mph.

That and these trucks are indeed heavier probably do to the frame and bed. They are porky.

As far as Height wise, I have never personally compared the two trucks side by side, but its my understanding that the two trucks are the same height at the lowest point (drivetrain), however the Taco body sits up higher on the frame.

Ive read that the frontiers are built on the full size titan frame and weigh 3-4 hundred pounds more. I think i read that in an offraod review. apparently the frontier sank in sand easier because of the added weight.

Correct, Superchip Tuner will disable it, and it is in effect till 40mph.

And there is NO way a 4cyl Tacoma can keep up with a 4.0 Frontier. I used to own one and it would stomp my 2.7 anyday anytime at anyspeed.

I would like to see a 50mph roll between a v6 taco and the frontier, because they are beasts when passing and on the highway.

I really liked my frontier, but i wouldn't buy another unless they redesigned it and made it really awesome.

That extra weight kills the H.P. advantage. I believe Frontiers have fully boxed frames. That's probably where a good chunk of that extra weight comes from. I also hear Frontiers get horrible gas mileage, but other than that they seem like nice trucks. I wouldn't trade a Tacoma for one though.:D

I've raced a guy with one a couple times on the way to work. He had a muffler at a minimum because the exhaust was pretty loud (and annoying). I would take him off the line, but once we hit about 45 I stopped pulling as much. I would put about 2 truck lengths on him in that time frame. I would still pull ahead if I gave him the hit. Never ran it past 60 since thats above the speed limit by a bit on the road.
