I was looking for a used Tacoma when I started too but was taken aback by the high prices with so many miles. I ended up going for a brand new one because in my opinion the cost difference didn't justify the high mileage.

Don't get me wrong, I know the Tacomas are beasts and can take the mileage. Seeing as I want to run my truck into the ground, I figured I'd rather spend twice as much money for a truck that will probably last me about twice as many miles being that it's new.

Good luck on your search though, love the look of the 1st gens!

alright guys i need some opinions. i found a nice truck on CL. its a 97 with 117k miles and is extremely clean. the guy is asking 5500 for it. the reason it is that low, is because it has a salvage title. it got into an accident and the guy fixed it himself. it sounds like he buys vehicles and fixes them himself. would you guys buy this vehicle?

No A salvage title is worth something like half the NADA of the truck and Im pretty sure the NADA or kelly would be around 6-7 thousand normally without the branded title, and thats if its a extended cab. So I would say he is a bit high.

I would not mess around buying a salvage truck. Who knows if he fixed it the proper way. If he buys and sells cars, there's a good chance that he fixed it the cheapest way he could to make a bigger profit, therefore it could have not been fixed the proper way. Trust me, I used to buy and sell cars for a while a few years back and some of the cars I sold were cheap, but there was a reason for that.

My 05 has 140,000 miles. It still drives like it did when it was new. No rattles, still has plenty of power. Everything works. Inside & out is in great condition.

I would buy one with 100k miles.

I just had a very bad experience with a salvage-titled truck and was very luck to get my money back. I would only consider it if I knew the person selling it personally and I knew exactly the damage it sustained (like I was there when it crashed and I saw it getting repaired.

ok guys i have a new truck i am interested in. its a 98 with 94k miles 5 speed 4x4 ext cab black sr5 and in pretty good shape. there is some rust on the rear and front bumper but nothing bad. it was tested by toyota for the frame issue late 2008 and passed. i got them down to 9 grand. the timing belt hasnt been changed. you guys think this is a good deal? they just got the truck in and is being detailed. it isnt even on the lot yet. seems like they really want to sell the truck. it was listed at 9995 and i got them down to 9k. i can probably get them to go down some more or i was thinking maybe working something out with changing the timing belt and or some rustproofing. input?

I think it sounds like a good truck. Its priced a little high Kelly blue book is right under 7 grand in my area of Washington. But here is the thing you will not find hardly any older first gens with that low of miles close to you. I think if you can get the timing belt changed by the owner and maybe a little less than 9k then I would get it. Good luck

i was baffled by the kbb price on these trucks. dont seem acurate at all. if you look a nada its quite a bit more. i think because of all this toyota bashing, the values are going down. i havent really seen this good of a deal on a truck for a long time. i look pretty much every day. what does everyone else think? what else do you think i could get in this deal? its at a dealer by the way

Ya same here I checked KBB before I bought my truck and it was low and that was before all this Toyota crap started happening. Get a Carfax but other than that I think it sounds like a killer truck especially with 98,000 miles that is a great find. But lets see what other people have to say :D
