Who has Wheelers Offroad 1st gen replacement leafs?

A bunch of us are interested in hearing about your experience with a few particular Wheeler's Offroad products (all made by Alcan) for a possible group buy:

95-2000 4-leaf replacement pack, stock ride height
95-2000 5-leaf replacement pack, 1.5 lift

2001-2004 4-leaf replacement pack, stock ride height
2001-2004 5-leaf replacement pack, 1.5 lift

I heard some complaints about breakage from 1 person on a few different sites, but that may have been related to rust-seized shackles or who knows what.

I have already searched a lot and it seems TW members have bought some of these, or said they were going to, but they haven't specified exactly which product or shared results.

And yes, before everyone starts swearing up and down about OMEs and Deavers, chill. We are looking for stock or close to stock ride height and weight capacity, and don't want to break the bank.

A lot of us would really appreciate your firsthand accounts about these Wheeler's Offroad products:
-Durability?
-Ride quality?
Help us make a good decision and save some money.

And we really don't care how bad your farts smell or your what your sig looks like or if you got springs for a 2nd gen...

I am mainly looking for a alternative stock height replacement for my application. Tho I wouldn't mind something with ~1" lift since I have coilovers upfront.

 

I didn't have the wheelers specific ones, but I had Alcans on mine that I ordered from Alcan itself and kept the height stock. They were on until I had my frame replacement done, and I ended up selling them, but I really liked them. Alcan makes a good quality spring, and I hauled some pretty heavy loads in it a few different times with no sagging, much less breaking.

i have their 5 pack leaves....coupled with some ome 881 coils. nice setup...ride is great.

 

FINALLY AN ANSWER

 

i got their stock replacement to try to rid my truck of the dreaded axle warp, but it did not resolve the problem. as far as ride, so-so.

 

Hmmm, axle wrap is a major reason for doing this...was that the 4 or 5-leaf pack?

my 5 pack got rid of a good amount of mine....but its still a good idea to grease the slip joint where the shaft comes outta the rear diff. i took mine apart from the diff there at the u joint....slid it apart,cleaned it real good...packed full of grease, reinstalled and then regreased......takes the axle wrap away pretty good. it needs to be done every so often. its a normal thing on the first gens.

 

so you actually unbolted your shaft and slid it out and greased it?

 

yeah.....it wasnt too hard to do. gotta mark where you take it apart tho...keep it lined up. i used a yellow paint pen. there was alot of old grease in there that was more or less like jello.........not doing its job. plus, part of my shaft was rusty, so i used a bit of sand paper and some anti seize on it.

 

i'll give it a shot

 

cool....let us know how it goes. and a heads up...the shaft may turn some........put the truck in neutral and lock the parking brake if you have an auto to line it back up and bolt it back up.
