Similar to what happened to me with my 1995 Tacoma which had the 4 Cylinder and 5 speed standard transmission. I was getting off the exit ramp on the interstate down shifting and the rpm's started almost redlining. Coasting to a stop in neutral, I then stomped the pedal and it released. I think this happened twice while I owned the truck. That truck is gone now and my 08 automatic has not had any acceleration issues.

My question here is....How many SUAs are automatics & how many are manual transmission, regardless of vehicle?

Comment about other posts concerning cc......The pedal doesn't move from using cruise because cruise is getting info from the ecu, not the pedal.

Thoughts on the overall SUA problem....It seems that there has to be some issue with ecu software or the hardware. If the driver isn't telling the vehicle what to do then it only leaves some sort of silly interaction between the sensors, ecu, tranny & motor telling the vehicle what to do.

Probably because that results in smoke up your ass like there is no problem or cause for concern like many others have posted about.

I think you should go out to your truck try getting the pedal to stick without the engine running turn the ignition to the run position but do not start the engine. Try applying a little bit of torque to the pedal (twist it perpendicular to the throw of the pedal) see if you can replicate it. Then when it is stuck take a good look at the pedal before you release it maybe its getting caught on some bunched carpet or maybe there is a failure with the pedal. If you can reliably replicate it, take the truck to your dealership and get it fixed. I know when you go there they will probably say "could not replicate" unless you can show them that it sticks. I don't believe the unintended acceleration bit. People are using it as an excuse for driving like idiots. Hate to admit it but I put the pedal to the floor on the highway and off stop lights all the time I've never had the pedal stick. I have on the other hand applied both the brake and the gas at the same time on a couple of occasions when the truck was still new and unfamiliar.

it could be a defect, BUT, it's commonly known that a lot of people are doing this on their own unintentionally, confusing the pedals. although if the pedal fell (sounds VERY fishy), it might not be his fault.

i wish people would think this through first and just put the thing in neutral - use the easy button!

The way it sounds to me, from the other posts from the OP is that the pedal gets stuck sometimes when it's put to the floor. Me thinks the friend does not want to admit he was redlining his buddies truck.

Have to jump in here: While I do agree with your general premise, I don't believe the govt "runs" the media. If that were the case, George Bush would've been protected by them just as much as Obama is now. It's more of an ideological issue; the media is dominated by liberals and they happen to agree with Obama and his marxist anti corporation attitude. Look how he rails on insurance companies and their "insane" profits when the average profit margin for health insurance companies happens to be 3.4%. To put that into perspective, Hershey = 8% profit margin, Google = 20.6%, Microsoft = 27.7%. The largest insurer, United Health, had a 4.1% profit margin (these are all '09 figures, btw).
