another issue is that there are certain threads that get way too much attention, and others that don't get any attention because of where they are posted, a perfect example is this thread, it has way more replies than the thread I started a couple weeks ago, same topic, but I posted in site suggestions.

While I agree with the idea of posting in the proper area, that was pretty funny.

I think it matters. The 2nd Gen forum gets a lot of threads. If there's a bunch of stuff in there that has nothing to do with 2nd gens, it can hide a genuine question that went unnoticed because it was pushed to subsequent pages. An unanswered thread will usually go to the second page in a matter of hours (the current first page shows about a 3 hour time span from the oldest on the page to the newest). Reducing the volume by posting in the correct forum will keep relevant questions on the first page longer.

If anything, posting to the correct forum will help ensure it stays in focus longer. For example, people post their builds in the 2nd gen forum and the Build forum. So those posting in the 2nd Gen forum quickly go off the first page and don't get as much notice (3 hours on the 2nd Gen forum, 5 days in the Build forum).

Other forums such as Audio/Video have resident experts that frequent those forums regardless of their particular generation. You're more likely to get an informational response if it's posted there instead.

It also helps with advanced searching (selecting the forum you're interested in to narrow down the hits).

I think either would be fine. It's an issue for your 2nd gen truck and it's unique to a stock 2nd gen Tacoma (aftermarket aside). You just have to think about where it would most likely get answered. In my opinion, you'd probably get a better answer in the 2nd gen forum.

As I posted earlier, I try to think about what kind of people are going to be perusing the forum. In audio/video, I'm going to encounter people who know a lot about those things (setting up a system, choosing an amp, etc). Would that same person know what to do about water droplets on your backup camera's lens? I'm not so sure.

if for example someone wanted to explain how Mag Grey is the best color, they could post that in any forum and still be correct. any other topic should be posted in its relevant forum though.

and I agree with something someone said earlier, too lazy to quote, but minimum 20 posts before being able to start a thread makes a ton of sense. people coming here for a quick answer would be forced to use the search function, find their answer and be on their merry way without clogging up the servers with extra duplicate threads. i have no idea how hard this would be to implement but it sure is a good idea.

Yeah, pretty much agreed. Reading comprehension and inattention can be lame, and so can posts that ask questions that cannot be answered accuratley without having adequate detail provided by the OP (or clearly provided in their profile).

I do get frustrated when I am trying to figure out specific technical information, and my post is quickly wiped off the homepage by a cavalcade of discussions about hangovers, V-neck shirts, and bimmers (WTF?). Obviously, people have a lot of fun with those threads, but maybe there is a better way to show recent threads on the home page, like one block for 1st gen, 1 block for 2nd gen, and another block for everythinglse? IDK. I mean, Technical Chat. Hmmm. Suspension. Hmmmm. A lot of us really do want 1st- or 2nd-gen specific input on topics like these.

I am sure someone, in all their free time, can fix all this in a perfect way that makes everyone happy.

You can make some of the people happy all the time, all of the people happy some of the time but you can't make all of the people happy all of the time.
