I have a Access Cab without a topper, I am sick of strapping my surfboards in the bed then against the cab, or letting it hang off over the tailgate. I am thinking of putting thule bars on, but they would have to be pretty close together since I have a Access Cab? Anyone figure out a better system? Maybe a lumber rack?

Yakima makes a hitch type rack that fits in the rear reciever, then run a soft rack on the cab.

I just tied mine down like you were saying with it poking out of the bed. Way less stuff to worry about installing and using when I wanted to go hit a wave.

I've seen somebody on here with the Thule or Yakima bars mounted in the bed rails , so you could strap your boards flat and flush to the top of the bed , but they would still stick out the back ,
