Best theft deterrent?

I've had client's do this in their homes...it's exactly as it's marketed. Works both ways...if you need to get out/rescued from your window could make it tougher...but heck we have cutters and spreaders, to do that!

 

Sorry to say, but the best method is simply not to have anything worth stealing in the truck.

 

Uh, couldn't you just look through the windshield to see if someone was in there?

 

I've had a couple car breakins and they never shattered the glass. Most of them will punch through the side of the door by the lock. It's much quieter than shattering glass. One cop said they'll typically work in a team of two (one on each side) and race to see who can get in fastest.

It's kind of funny that you posted this. I had similar thoughts last night and am thinking of doing a mod like this, however I was planning on making it to look like the face had been removed. A cassette player face would likely look less appealing though. Thoughts?

 

It has to be installed properly and is very expensive to have someone do it right. Plus its still breakable. The company I work for uses it on our stores in high crime areas that are more prone to burglaries. If you hit it enough times it will eventually break. I have a video of a guy doing a discus type spinning throw with a cinder block at our front door and it just bounced off...lol quite funny. He eventually broke the window after a few hits. Then all the film does is just keep the glass from getting all over the individual.

 

keep your truck bone stock and empty of anything inside and a little flashing LED light telling everyone you have an alarm

 

I have lived in high crime areas and have had many stereo systems stolen. I have had alarms and all that but the best thing that I have found is a good insurance policy that covers your system. I have USAA and I pay an additional $5 a month for them to insure any thing that is either installed in my truck or is in my truck. It is just alot easier that way if they break anything or destroy something it is all covered by the insurance.

 

Put a couple of piezo sirens in there. If you have an alarm that is going off with the piezo sirens in the cab, it'll make it hard for someone to be in there for long because their ears will start to hurt. Probably isn't 100% but it would help. They are only about $15/siren.

 

CLEAN THAT THING or you won't deter anyone, it'll blow up in your face

 

Nothing is a sure thing, but a garage is your best bet.
