Interesting that I had Kenwood KFC's in my door for 8 months with no problems. I finally sealed up the door with Raammat BXT2 and Ensolite, turn up the volume and...POW...blow the damn speaker. I suppose the increased back pressure was just too much.

I have a stock head unit with no plans to change. I am not using the tweeters and have no plans to start. The door is already deadened and I am not removing it to change wires around. I need a plug and play. Also can't change the size because I have Marv's baffles already mounted.

What is the advantage of pre-wired crossovers?

    Any recommendations for speakers?

Here is what I was looking at:

    Kenwood KFC-C6893PS $79.99
    • 3-way 6"x8" speakers (pair)
    • Diamond Array Pattern polypropylene woofer
    • rubber surround
    • 1-3/16" PEI balanced dome tweeter, 1/2" ceramic flat tweeter
    • power range: 2-80 watts RMS (240 watts peak power)
    • frequency response: 80-22,000 Hz
    • sensitivity: 87 dB
    [IMG]

    Polk Audio db571 $74.99
    • 2-way car speakers (pair) for 5"x7" and 6"x8" openings
    • Dynamic Balance polymer/mica composite woofer with butyl rubber surround
    • 3/4" liquid-cooled silk/polymer composite dome tweeter
    • Neodymium tweeter magnet
    • Kapton voice coil
    • built-in 2-way crossover network
    • stainless steel mounting hardware (certified for marine use)
    • power range: 6-60 watts RMS (180 watts peak power)
    • frequency response: 52-22,000 Hz
    • sensitivity: 93 dB
    [IMG]

    Infinity Kappa 682.9cf $111.99
    • 2-way 5"x7"/6"x8" speakers (pair)
    • True Four Ohm Impedance technology: speaker's 2-ohm impedance combines with speaker wire impedance for a 4-ohm load
    • compatible with virtually all factory or aftermarket car stereos
    • Plus One® woven-glass-fiber woofer cone with hi-roll rubber surround
    • 1" rotating UniPivot, edge-driven M.M.D.® dome tweeter
    • computer-optimized outboard crossover with tweeter level control
    • direct-connect crossover dongle
    • power range: 2-100 watts RMS (300 watts peak power)
    • frequency response: 40-25,000 Hz
    • sensitivity: 88.6 dB

I'm concerned that the Infinity's will require more power than my stock HU is putting out. Or at least I won't see the true value in these because they won't be getting the power they deserve.

You wont get the true value unless you run an amp but that goes for almost all speakers. The sound quality will be their even if you arent at high wattage. I put kicker speakers in my 08 and they were 100 watt speakers and they still sounded great with the stock head unit. If i were to do it again i would buy the infintys. That is just my opinion.

They look like good speakers to. I like infinitys quailty. They seem to be up their with the best but they are still a resonable price.

Why are you looking at 5x7 speakers? Why not put a 6x9 in there like the stock one if you're going to use an oval speaker?

    I'm all over the board.

Called Crutchfield to order the IR's and the rep talked me into a pair of Pioneer TS-A6882R. Said the mid-range bass would be better. I went with them on Amazon for $55 shipped. Expected to spend $100 on these so I'm "in the black".

    • PET silver film dome 1/2" tweeter and 3/8" supertweeter
    • frequency response: 35-27,000 Hz
    • recommended power range: 2-50 watts RMS
    • peak power handling: 280 watts
    • sensitivity: 90 dB

I had left over Kenwood 6x8's that I wanted to use last year. I bought Mr Marv's baffles for that size speaker. It blew last week and I am replacing it without replacing the baffles.
