Theres a Mom and Pop tire shop here in town... I've bought several sets of tires for him and he quoted $450 out the door, i gave him the smile with no questions asked.
I'm most likely between 200-300 miles on these tires and they perform well in the rain we had tonight, I can't wait to get them in the dirt.

I have 50K on mine (265/70/16) and they are pretty much finished. They still look great, still have significant tread left on them, still ride smooth and quiet but as they've worn down, wet traction has definitely deteriorated. In fact that is my main bitch about these tires. In damp, on-pavement conditions, from a stop, they break loose way too easily. They weren't too bad when newer but I would say that after the first 25-30K they've continued to get worse and worse.

I think I'll try the Goodyear Silent Armors for my next set of tires... I couldn't pass up a good deal on these Toyos.

Thats weird...I don't have any of those problems and I've got 10k on my tires now. The sidewalls are pretty strong in my opinion. Toyo's are an extremely heavy tire and have a sturdy sidewall because of that and they use a stronger rubber. But to each their own.

Yeah the more miles you have on the Toyo's, the worse the wet traction gets...But thats with ANY tire, especially A/T's and M/T's.

Yeah, I want to pick up one for my spare tire. It's cheaper than the Toyo, and I've heard that it's a decent A/T and great on the highway.

Recently picked up a set of 265/70/16 Open Country H/T's, and so far I am loving them. Still rated M+S, taking them up to the mountain monday, should be interesting to see how they perform.

That seems wrong... do you have other tire dealers you can get quotes from? I bought mine in 2007 at Express Tires, which is just down the street from a Discount Tire place and they were ~$140 each... 265/70-16. Competition makes the prices lower... Cooper Discoverer ATRs were a bit less and work equally well as the Toyos, so that was my final tire purchase on my '05... also from Express Tires.

ya know, if shopping for tires, there are two key ways to get good pricing...

    1. Target the small mom and pop shops as well as the big shops. Often times, the small shops with low overhead will aim to only make a 20% profit on full sets of tires.

    2. Always get your price quotes in person, not on the phone. As the retailer has no idea who they are dealing with, they don't always give their best prices over the phone. If you are at the counter in person, they will work harder for your business and that is where the power of negotiation comes into play.

I once got a set of Cooper STTs in 285-75-16s, mounted/balanced with sales tax, paid on credit card, for $700 out the door, when 3 other shops wanted $850 or $975 plus tax.

My buddy called the same shop just days before and they quoted him $850 out the door.

I found another tire shop that specialized in low riders, and they sold my other buddy a set of BFG ATs in 265-75-16 for $600 out the door.

Deals are out there, just have to think outside the box and search them out. Get out of your comfort zone and walk into the small shops. Like they say, "Don't judge a book by its cover." You just might stumble onto a gold mine.

Well I went in person to the Compton 4wheelparts store and they gave me the same price as online. They didn't have any in stock and couldn't give me any time frame as to when they will getting more tires in. Guess they didn't want my business. So far, the cheapest I have found was 850 out the door for 265/75/16.

gotta share this w/you Guys!! So after a week of looking online, Tire Rack, 4wd.com, Discount etc.etc. and being told that Toyos are on back-order with the best price $150 p/t.. i stopped by a smaller local franchise (Gator tire) here in Orl. Talked to the guy..he looked around said he could get them in a week & quoted me $160 (740 total) ..well that's not gonna happen  told him I need to be less than $700 incl mounting, bal, Tax, and road hazard. He talked to the Mgr, came back with new figures at $680- everything included..now THAT'S a Deal!! :headbang:

Took my Open Country H/T's up to the mountain today. After I was done and packing back up, I watched their tractor help pull several AWD vehicles out of their snowbanks. Was a good feeling switching into 4Lo and climbing out with ease.

Would have gone with the A/T if it weren't for the fact that I live in the NW, and the added water channeling performance of the H/T's is what I'm really going to need 8 months out of the year. Still M+S rated though, so I can keep enjoying my trips up to play in the snow =)

Getting my A/T's installed tomorrow. $739 out the door for the 265/75/16 6 ply. They are also taking out my sensors from my existing wheels and tires and re balancing them.
