    Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum, and after searching all over I couldn't find much information on grease points. I have a 2000 tacoma prerunner 2.7L, and wondered if anyone had any guides or links on where the grease points are for this truck. Also, I found little information on the "ping" noise coming from under the truck. Is this associated with the need for grease?

Also, if anyone could recommend the types of grease required, it would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks!

    Nick

Forgive me as I'm not much of a mechanic, but what is a zerk?

It's the little fitting you attach a grease gun to.

    When does your car Ping?

Does it happen when you are accelerating? if so no amount of grease will fix that..
    Try better fuel.

Are you sure it is not a Squeek?
    Lube the leaf springs.

Thanks for the responses! They have been very helpful. I found a Toyota manual that shows the grease points for the Prerunner shaft. Does anyone know what size grease gun tip is required? I Imagine that it's the same size for the 4WD models.

Thanks for all your help again!

----Its not a ping from the engine, it’s a shift from park to reverse, and many others have described that about my greasing the zerks. However, I do have a squeak as well, and thought it was from the leaf springs. Do you have any suggestions on how to lube them, and if so what type of grease, lithium or MP?

use a good dry moly lube and spray into each of the leafs liberally.......should take care of the squeak. as for grease gun ends........should be all relatively the same.

Also, make sure thee are no plastic caps on the grease zerks. I watched my buddy bust his butt trying to grease his truck, and when I craweled under it to see what was wrong, I noticed he never took the plastic caps off of the zerks. If you have them, just pull them off and throw them out. :)

well I greased my propellar shaft today, and it was a huge success! I was, however unable to locate any moly spray. I tried autozone and napa. All they had was white lithium. I'll have to order online and grease my springs another day. Thanks again for all the help.

good to hear you got the drive shaft greased.

do you have a tractor supply or northern tool and equipment anywhere close to you?? if so....check there. they carry dry moly lube sprays, as well as silicone type sprays, and these are good for the leaf packs also.
