Hi there! I acctually just insalled the same OME rear leafs last weekend on my 06 and the install was a pain but I managed. I was wondering the same what the torqe on the u bolts was, and I found online anywhere from 85 to 100 Ft/Lbs. would be ok so I torqed mine to 100 and every thing is fine. Heck I even saw one guy say as high as 120 so I think I am within ballpark. Others feel free to chime in if I am wrong here, but mine seems to be doing just fine.

Good luck on the install my friend, also take your time, and have fun!

Though the FSM says 37, Me and aquite a few other people belive it to be wrong. 37 is WAY too low for U bolts. Everything I have checked has pointed to them being 73 lbs- ft of torque. Thats what I have been setting all of them too.

Thank you Chris, so its a true typo then. Someone transposed the 7 and the 3. There is an automated way to submit the correction to Toyota Corp... If I remember to do it I will.

I have talked to Toyota about this, as well as alot of techs ot their delaers. The Tecs belive it to be a Typo as well. When I sent an E-mail to Toyota regarding this issue, they sent me a broucher on the new Tacomas, and said they will be happy to assist in me buying one.

    Chris,

I'm not surprised by your experience. Getting the information to the right people can be a real challenge.

In my experience with using the TIS, and when viewing any specific document in the FSM, there is the option to submit corrections about the document that you are viewing. There is a form to fill out and it allows you to upload any supporting document that you may have to clarify what the issue is.

Recently while viewing the 2009 wiring diagram I found a major omission on the 2009 and 2010 wiring diagrams for the engine room junction (relay) block. The completely left off the diagram connectors EB1 and EA1!

I submitted the correction, but I have no idea if a real person received it or not.

    Thanks again Chris,

I have learned a giga-bajillion things from you now. :)

Good info on the TIS. Thanks :)

X2! I too had a tough time and can offer a few tips.

    1. Jack up the truck by the rear diffy and place 2 jack stands under the frame rails. Make sure the truck sits VERY HIGH!
    2. Jack up the rear diffy and place 2 jack stands under the rear axel, just inboard of the OEM u-bolt plate. Keep this low to the ground! Remove the 2 rear tires, the 2 rear shocks, the u-bolts on both sides, the 2 brake line screws on each side and then remove both sets of leaf springs (tip, the shackles have to come out too).
    3. install the shackle onto one of the OME leaf springs and install this into the forward facing bracket only and get it onto the center pin.
    4. loosely install the u-bolts onto that leaf spring
    5. repeat step 3 and 4 for the other side
    6. jack up the rear axel using TWO hydraullic jacks, one on each side of the axel - don't jack up by the diffy.
    7. remove the jack stands and simultaneously lower the 2 jacks as low as they'll go.
    8. get the rear shackles installed and tighten everything up.
    9. reconnect the brake lines
    10. install the shocks
    11. put the tires back on

You'll DEFINITELY need 2 hydraullic jacks and 4 jackstands. At one point, I had such a hard time getting the leaf springs installed I placed one of my jacks under the drive shaft and diffy interface, jacked it up with the rear axel on jackstands and slid the rear axel around to aid in getting the leaf springs in place. This was a huge trick a friend showed me and it worked really well.

    Good Luck!

Dr Rabbit, ha ha nice! thats about how I did it except I just took off one side at a time, made it kinda hard to get the new leafs into place but it worked for me.

How are you liking your new ride? I acctually like mine alot but it is definately stiffer than I had expected. But it is stiff in a good way that feels more in controll and not so harsh if that makes any sense, ha ha!

I like it pretty well. I'm about as "stiff" on the #1 shock setting as I was with the rear leaf TSB. I was hoping things would be a little smoother around town for the wife, but no luck. The first words out of her mouth after we hit a bump near our neighborhood were... "I thought you said this would ride smoother?" I simply said... "that's correct, I THOUGHT it would ride smoother... guess it doesn't." After talking about it, she was expecting my lifted Tacoma to ride more like her limited Sequoia. :)

Fawk. I feel really bad about this... :sorry:

If you made it to work okay, you'll probably be okay to make it home, just drive slow and take it real easy. Also take into consideration how far you have to travel. Hopefully it is a short distance.

If it's too risky perhaps find some tools to use before the return trip home.

Yes you need to torq those down to at least 85 ft lbs if not more than that. 37 is way to loose I am surprised they are not moving around on you. Like I said I have mine at 100. You need to take into account that these leaf packs are significantly larger and heavier than the originals and are meant to take more abuse so they need more torq! 37 or even 73 might be ok for the original leafs but not for the OME leaf pack.

Ha ha thats funny stuff! My wifey likes it, although she did say it was definately stiffer but not overly. Dont you love how women think our trucks should ride like caddys? Ha ha, Well I guess its hard to get any "smoother" than the stock leafs, they are pretty plush but I just couldnt take all the bottoming out my truck was doing, or the fact that it couldnt carry much in the bed. Thats mainly why I bought this leaf pack so I wouldnt have to worry about bottoming out anymore. Oh and the fact that it looks so much nicer lifted :D
