You can't compare paint from a 12 year old vehicle to a new one, no matter who the manufacturer. Advances in basecoat and clearcoat are light years ahead of paint from over a decade ago. Most automotive clearcoats now are made with UV filters to prevent fading. Primers and even E-coat (zinc phosphate) are much better as well.

All car makers outsource their paint, most commonly PPG and DuPont.

My statement was based on a statement concerning a 12 year old car as the reason they would never buy that color again.

I've got a 1988 Acura out of town as a work car that has been outside continuously for the last three+ years and the paint still looks pretty good compared to the like year model GM and domestic products in the lot my coworkers and I park in. This car is 20 years old and the clear coat is finally starting to break down in a couple places. I can look across the street, the guy I sold it to in '99, at my old 1989 Toyota truck and same story. I must admit I haven't had a GM product since a 1980 Z28 that the shop had more than I did. Got my first Toyota truck in '84 and have had one every since. My wife has had Acura, Honda, and Mazda over the years as I have also had Ford and Dodge. The Honda and Toyota products have had the best paint IMO.

This is the reason I went with white!!! Besides if you keep a good coat of wax on it, the brush scratches should buff off with a little bit of elbow grease. Go with White dude!

White is generally easier for other drivers to see and therefore safer, hides dirt and what-not the best, and is cooler in the summer.
