    back to bone stock.
i was in high school when a friend said. if someone would build a truck that looked like a 4x4, but wasnt, they would make a fortune.

i think toyota did it right. i have a 4x4, but honestly, even backroads hunting trips..i get by 80% with just driving on in. that 20%..phew. glad i have 4by. i bet $$, if i had a prerunner and kept smart about it, i could do it in a 2wd forever.

saves gas, maint $, weight..good stuff, those prerunners.

You also have to take into account drivers skill. I figured I would learn how to wheel in a 2wd, open diff in my case haha. But even people who spend the money on 4x4's dont necessarily know how to drive them making the extra money pointless to spend :) just my 2 cents. Prerunners FTW I love it and wouldnt ever need to spend the extra dough for front wheel turning and gripping

    Really?...
When they asked me if I wanted a extended warranty? I said no,but then they kept on saying "well we can lower by this much..". I held out long enough we're the extended waranty only added $2 to my payment.

Because 4x4 was out of the budget at the time, because it was a nice truck compared to many I looked at, and I'm on the road 90% of the time since my city is a concete jungle. I modified mines to preform better off-road when I do because I like those capabilities.

Because 4x4 go for too high a premium used imo; because I live in the SW and 2WD with a locker will do me just fine.

Because I've seen Honda Accords and VW buses back in spots where the lifted and locked 4wd guys are.

Oh and i spoke to friends with 4x4's lockers etc about their trucks but the kicker for me was talking to my father in law that has lived in Wisconsin all his life; 4-5 months of ice and snow. And he drives a Camry; grew up driving a RWD Camaro. Never had a need for 4wd....if he doesn't in the MidWest, I sure as sh%t don't down here in the desert.

    Same as everybody else...
My old truck was 4x2 and I've never had a need for 4wd. I live in Southern Maryland and we get snow but I find good tires and a steady foot gets me through. My PreRunner has no problem handling the mild off roadingI do

If you dont get snow, or go on the beach or do offroading ( 90% of everyone that owns a truck) then a prerunner is the way to go.

Don't really use the 4wd often enough to justify paying that much more for it, plus don't have to worry about the front diff bearing issue..

Mine was the nicest truck I could find within my budget and I really don't "need" a 4x4 but I would have bought one if the numbers worked out.

i might need 4x4 1-2 days out of the year at most. And thats if/when we get snow here in TN, and i really shouldn't be on the road then anyways because southerners cannot drive in snow at all. I do not take my truck off roading, that makes no sense to me to take something that expensive off road just because(just my opinion), I have dirt bikes/mountain bikes/3 wheelers for that.

    I don't need a 4x4 and I like riding up high. I also like the V6 and Toyota doesn't make a 5 lugger with a V6.

I wanted a clean 2gen 4 door for as cheap as possible. A local Nissan dealer had one that caught my eye. I tried to negotiate with the cocky, pubescent "sales manager" about trading my Lexus in on it, but the numbers didn't add up so I walked. I ended up selling the Lexus private party and went searching for another Tacoma.

The same Tacoma I had already test driven and inspected top-to-bottom at the Nissan dealership popped up on a sister lot for cheaper so after some confusion(they lost the truck??)I finally purchased it on Valentine's Day.

I've driven waaaay too many miles to purchase vehicles and I was over it at the time(and carless) so a clean 2wd was what I purchased. I do wish it was 4wd, but I've got the wife's 4Runner to yank me out when I overestimate my abilities. :help:
