    The Dust Bowl
    States are making tons of these types of plates now. It's mainly a way to increase revenue. Most people who have served in the military or civilian services know what they have done and don't really need to be "honored" with a license tag.

    True that they don't "need" to be honored with a license plate, but all of the non-profit organizations with custom license plates in Oregon get money from the sale of the plates. The additional cost for the special plates is put towards that organization. And yes, the state probably will benefit a little from people who switch to a new plate, but not by a lot.
