I'm not too familiar with 4x4 with being only a 2wd prerunner and mostly desert runs under my belt. What kind of qualities are you looking to get out of long travel? I'm sure it's completely different than what my set up is.

I could admit LT does feel better on trails over a mid-travel kit. But you guys prolly sag out your suspension like crazy or am I wrong there? I could only imagine some of the trails you guys do. I'm sure a picture or you tube doesn't do justice compared to actually riding in the cab. I'm pulling 13" because I'm a mini taco but nothing better than doing 60+ mph over a 2 mile section of whoops and shocks are about 300 F afterwards:goingcrazy:

Why woukd u spend AP money for 2inches per side, when for a few hundred more literraly you can get an L/T. Along with that you will get more articulation. So u have to think what's best for the money if that's ur concern. Also what material r the other companies using and quality of the workmanship along with customer service. Just my 2 cents

i cant speak for everyone here, but the reason why someone may spend the $ for 2" per side is because not everyone wants to be 8" wider for overall track width.... as for the articulation...... the only LT kit i have seen that would give you significantly more articulation is the Engage..... The TC LT kit for 4x4's is rated at 13" of travel.... a mere 1" more than the AP yet youre riding on 2" wider on each side?

Again, thats why I personally wouldnt want the wider track width.

As for the customer service, AP is second to none which anyone can see simply by following any AP threads on here.

I cant speak for the quality though, because i have never owned an AP product.

Engage kit with spindles up front will ride higher than any other LT kit out there, which a lot of people flame on ttora and other forums, but its has a purpose. Engage designs their kit to handle harsh whoops such as Barstow and other cali deserts. When you look at LT trucks in the Baja 1000, they ride much lower, giving them lower center of gravity and superior handling, but then again they also race in a more dirt environment as opposed to a jumps and whoops environment. Low trucks will not survive Barstow main, let alone the race track.

The only down side to engage were their lower control arm uniball adapters. They used to be too thin and would warp, making the adapters rub on the brake rotors. Engage has now made them much beefier and replaced mine for free. If you are 2wd and are interested in Engage, go with their racing spindles too...they have the adapter built into the spindles and are really strong and beefy...however a lot of people dont like the spindles cuz they make ur truck SUPER high

yea i remember seeing a Tundra on TTORA that was "Engaged" and it was HUGE! but like you said, it has a purpose.

I'm sure the Engage kit can handle the big stuff like a champion, but we did just prerun the Mint 400 course with mine and let me tell ya, we weren't in the back of the pack haha :D

ideally though, if you are trying to gain travel without impacting track width, why not just go solid axle?

If all I wanted to do was haul ass in Barstow, I'd sell my 4x4, buy a prerunner, and engage it.

But that's not what I do. One weekend I might be going with a Jeep group up to Gorman, another at Pismo, and another out in the desert.

16'' of travel is great, but being like 8'' wider and lacking 4x4 means I couldn't do any of the other styles of offroading that I like.

Chase, did you install your AP LT kit yet? Did you make a build thread? Are you going to run 35" tires? :)

I read that Currie makes the extended axle shafts. I took comfort in that detail when I learned of that.

Man 4x4 is a beautiful thing. Nice stuff there. I'd honestly be less freaked out doing whoops compared to all the rocks and tight canyons you did. I just about have a heart attack riding with my buddy on the main divide along Corona, CA.

I'm curious what second gen can run LT and 35's without fiberglass. I don't think any kits can.

I'd have to agree with mikesdoublecab, wouldn't you guys want a solid axle front? I think I'm 4" over on each side.

Crom, yea I did. I'm gonna run 33's as soon as I use up the last few thousan miles on these 31's.

I have a build thread already up, I will do a full detailed update soon.
