5100s installed at 1.75- why too high?

Finally got my 5100s installed in the front and due to all the recommendations, photos, etc..., 1.75 seemed like the way to go to level my 2010 TRD CC 4X4. I do have the rear TSB done. Since having the Billys installed, the truck s sits higher in the front- which I do not like the looks of. I also have the "Tacoma Lean", so the passenger side is exactly .5 inches higher than the driver's. I've checked the install- everything is correct and the shocks are on the 1.75 setting.
Does the rear TSB vary that much where I may not have gotten as much rear lift as others? I'm having the truck dropped to .85 tomorrow which I think will "level" my truck. Hmmmmmm, not the results I expected.

 

ya that kind of happened to me too, but it doesn't look too bad and isnt that noticeable. You should put in an AAL

 

At 1.75 I would think your truck would still be higher in the rear.

 

What's it involve to add another leaf and what's it cost? Because I like the height, but from the side it is nose high and once I put some gear in the back it'll look even worse.

 

Make sure the spring cups on the shock are in correctly.
If they are upside down it will add heigth and could possibly fail if the clip pops out.

Look at the location on the shock. If the clip ring that locates the lower spring mount is visable it is in upside down.

The spring mount should slip down over the clip and keeps it from possibly popping out.

Yes I did it on mine on the first one. Caught it before finishing the second one.

 

I was expecting the same thing after all of the research on here and getting the TSB done... was a little disappointed and don't want .85 to be too low. Want to still be able to run 265/75s eventually.

 

I know exactly what you are talking about and it's the first thing I checked when it seemed high- they are correct. It's not super high and looks ok sometimes depending on the angle and grade I'm sitting on- but also because the pass. side sits .5 inches higher, that makes it even worse from that side.

 

You can run 265/75/16's on stock suspension.

 

I believe Toytec makes an AAL for trucks with the TSB but you would probably end up with a slight rake. Although if you plan to haul things you might want a slight rake.

 

my lean was bad after i installed my 5100s as well (1.75) i added a 1/4" spacer to the drivers side. install was easy.

your front end will settle out a bit too. don't drop down to .85 yet... give it some time.

 

I went with the 1.75 setting and my 5100's and love the way it sits. What I hate is that damn Taco Lean. It drives me crazy, especially after I fill up. How's that 1/4 spacer working out with and without a full tank ? One of the shops suggested that I get the leaf spring on the drivers side re-arched.

 

the spacer fixed the front end, even with a full tank. i can still see a slight variance in the rear end with my eye, though not as bad as the front was. i haven't taken measurements on the rear though. the spacer itself isn't expensive, but shipping was almost half of what the spacer cost..... got it from toytec

 

I never noticed the front end leaning. My eye was always drawn to the rear. Do you have a part number or should I just ask for a 1/4 inch spacer.

 

i put a used tsb leaf pack on my tacoma and set the billys at .85, truck sits perfectly level. i was kind of expecting a little rake as well but im fine with level. i might put an aal on the rear and raise the front to 1.75"...so id wait and see if it settles before doing anything else.

 

look up under your truck, this is the spring seat installed upside down

 

Checked that- thanks. We found that they are installed correctly and it's just my TSB that didn't add quite as much height as others. At 1.75, the truck was a tad higher on driver's side and .5 inches higher than that on passenger side due to the driver's side lean.

 

Just got back from my local 4X4 shop and got the truck looking good- no need to spend all that $$ on a Toytec spacer either. They dropped my 5100's to .85, and then for the "Tacoma Lean" they fabricated a 1/4" spacer for $5.50 for the driver's side and the truck sits perfectly now, with a very, very slight rake to it, which I like.
The spacer was made from two 1/8" c-clips with the same inner diameter as the shock- then they were machined down so the outer diameter matched the existing clip on the shock. Both sides of truck are the same height with full tank of gas. Hope some of you can use that to fix yours as well.
