Toyota and myself have come to the conclusion that it was a lemon. Ironically after admitting that it has been maybe the most problematic Tacoma in Canadian History - they proceeded to do absolutely nothing about it. Thankfully I purchased the extended warranty and have recouped the cost nearly three times over. Things are looking up however and most of the bugs seem to have been ironed out...

    Tires, all four

Replaced front wheel bearing. Expensive job, it takes three hours of labor, where they had to take apart the entire wheel hub.
Did a brake job in the process.

Replaced antenna. My fault, I snapped it off driving through trees during the New England Ice storm, back in 2008.

    Replace all struts.

Today the Check engine light came on, and I have a P0012 fault code.

The light went out after the check and being it runs well, I'll wait to see if it comes back on before I bring it in to the dealer for repair. They're all thieves ya know. :)

Entire transmission (warranty - was kind of my fault though. Long story. )

Spindle and lower control arm (passenger side - offroad damage)

Catalytic converter started making a ticking noise, replaced under TSB.

I had to order a new radio today. Good thing I have warranty still or I would upgrade to something better!

It was doing all kinds of crazy things this morning!

09 double cab off road 4x4 49,000 miles.
I manage a large hillside farm so the truck has a tough life.
    need to replace
-mud flaps, three have broken off
-latch that keeps the center console box shut, the button broke off
-the little shelf below the ignition fell off
-the sliding bed hooks/rails are garbage
-interior plastic is starting to rattle a lot
-just today I noticed an engine knock when inside the cab, I don't hear it when I am outside????
-the composite bed is starting to wear in places.

This is a work truck and I generally get a new one every 2 - 3 years. Trucks I have had/worn out
    85 toyota 22r 4x4 - a+ still sorry I sold it
89 toyota v6 4x4 - bought used, lots of odd mechanical problems, clutch pedal broke off
    2000 f150 4x4- great truck
200? dodge 2500 4x4-seems solid, but had to be in 4x4 for any traction on dirt
2006 dodge 1500 4x4-comfy ride but drank fuel like Bukowski
2008 tacoma trd 4x4-only had for 6 months them changed jobs
2009 tacoma trd 4x4- jury is still out so far so good, but seems to be getting loose at 50k

Why timing chain? Should be able to get 250,000 miles out of a chain. It is timing belts that you change @ 120,000 miles. And our 2nd gen trucks have the timing chain

    2009 DCSB, TRD, OR, 4x2 PreRunner @ 15/months & 13,500 miles.

Charcoal Canister Filter @ maybe 3/months & 3,000 miles and Rear Spring TSB at maybe 8,000 miles (both on warranty).

Need to do the Transmission TSB on Reflash ECM because it feels like it is slipping sometimes.

Traded in OEM BFGs Rugged Trails at 12,500 and got Michelin LTX AT2s and love them.

PS ... Need to check defroster and it seems to blow very little air on windshield. (Makes a lot of noise on high with very little air movement to windshield).
