Need Advice - Stuck alans wrench bolts

So I have 2 alans wrench bolts from the top mounting brackets on my brush guard that are stuck. For the life of me I can't get them off and are close to stripping.

Is there a shop like Midas or something I can take it to to have them removed?

 

Can you get a pair of pliers around the head of the bolt or is it sitting flush in the hole?

lots of times when i run into this I can usually fit the tip of a flat head or square head screw driver in the it to get it out also.

let this be a lesson to you... brush guards are good for nothing

thats alan, i would try a flat screw driver that is the same size

 

May consider screw extractor if it's not too big of a bolt..Otherwise try just drilling it out.

 

What happens when you stick the allen wrench in there?

What I mean is....does the allen wrench go down into the hole of the bolt head entirely? If not, tap it with a hammer to get it to go deeper in the bolt head. Then, HOLD it in there while you try and pry on it. I'm guessing this won't work, but thought I'm mention it.

Do you have the proper sized allen wrench (metric or standard)??

The next thing I would try....

What is that spacer looking thing behind it? Can you get a vice grip on that and turn it? If you can get that thing to move, you might be able to get the bolt to move.

What's on the other side of the bolt? Can you get in there with anything?

Another option - Use a dremel or hacksaw and cut a straight line through the center of the bolt head (the whole way across). The whole idea, is to make a cut so you can get a flathead screwdriver to try and get it loose. Also - you'll have knotches there to use a punch or chisel on it also.

If all that stuff doesn't work - use a bolt extractor (as already mentioned). However, for best results........you have to drill a hole into the center of the bolt and a deep enough hole for the extractor to work.

If there's a nut on the other side - you might be able to just cut the head off completely and punch the bolt through the other side. But - be careful where the piece ends up....(if it gets stuck inside your frame and rattles around for years...that would suck).

That is an alans, i have the correct size wrench, it goes in all the way. The "spacer" looking thing in the back is the left over part of the upper support brace that snapped off and was left behind.

The problem is i am trying to put so much torque on it to loosen it, its at the point where the head is about to be stripped.

I've been spraying liquid wrench on there every few hours, i'm gonna let that soak for a while and try again later.

To make things worse, it is in a tight spot and on top of that I have a cast on my arm from a broken wrist so it is tough to get two hands in there for support.

Anywho, thanks for all the ideas, I'll keep at it.

 

you probably just need to sell the truck now...you're never gonna get it loose.

Go buy a cheap set of 3/8" drive ALLEN (not alans) sockets and take one that's slightly larger and pound it in there with a hammer. Then make sure you hold it tight and use plenty of leverage (a pipe extension) or an impact gun if you have one. If that doesn't work then you will need to drill it out and use a bolt extractor.
