Painting chrome billet grille black??

I got one of those nice chrome looking billet grilles, but I dont like how the shiney chrome sticks out so I want to paint it black. Anyone else done this?
If so, whats the best paint to use (can you give me a link to it?) and also, do I need to use primer to paint it?

I did my friends billet grille on his G35 I used 120 grid sand paper to make the metal a little rough then I used an all purpose Flat Black enamel spray paint it take me about 3 coats and we installed it it came out looking sick.. http://305sr.net/viewthread.php?tid=3362

I love the way mine turned out. I used some sand paper and went over it lightly with a primer. Then about 2-3 coats of satin black. Then a nice solid coat of satin clear.

 

hmm thats different.. im thinkin that might look awesome on a black truck (ok ok, my black truck)

 

From a distance it looks like its missing the grille haha, but i like it more than chrome.

 

I used 300 grit sandpaper to dull the chrome. One coat of Adhesion promoter, 2 coats of Krylon acrylic enamel. I didn't want too much of a shine so I didn't use a clear coat. No chips so far. You can buy all the supplies at any auto parts store.

 

I can't really add much to what's been said above. I had a chrome billet and decided I wanted to de-chrome the truck. Once I took it off I figured it'd try blacking it out... I used sand paper, primer and spray paint that I got from AutoZone (nothing special) and it turned out well.

I never put it back on the truck, though. Like you can see from some pictures above, it almost disappears when you put it on the truck. Something about the chrome makes it look more solid than black. You can see right through the black. I'm going to do a Satoshi eventually.

Anyway... I have it in my shed if you want it w/o doing the work yourself.
