I f**ked up!

So i installed an NMO antenna the other day and made one huge mistake. I didnt clean up all of the metal shavings. So the other day it rained and i was excited to see that the antenna was not leaking, therefore it was a successful install...wrong. I just looked on my roof this morning and there are little rusted metal shavings all over my roof. F**K!!!! So now what? What should i do to clean it? I was pondering the idea of just wiping them off and then wet sanding the roof and reapplying clear coat to it. GAH!!!

 

and what about removing all the rust spots stuck to the paint?

Don't panic a clay bar will fix that, no problem.

 

if the clay bar does not take care of that, a good polishing or rubbing compound should do the trick

 

brb ill take some. lol but on the bright side, the antenna looks great.

 

Before wet sanding / clear coating, ask a detailer or body shop that does paint correction for help...with the right pad and compound the spots might come out.

If not, it's the roof...only an NBA player will see it. Nobody else will notice

 

It also helps that im on a 6" fabtech with 35's. But its more the fact that i know that if i just leave it, the rust will chew through the paint and hit the metal of the roof.

 

go to a self serve car wash and spray it down real good. From roof down to make sure you have all that washed off the truck. Then use the clay bar. That should correct that.

 

I installed an NMO mount using the hole for the Sat Radio. Worked pretty well. The factory Sat antenna had two holes so I had to fill one. I was thinking about drilling but I would have been sad. Sorry you had a problem like this!
