help me decide which one to get...

so im looking at getting a new tonneau cover, my old one bit the dust. i had the metal snaps and hated them. so im looking at a velcro or a tongue-and-groove. i havent seen or heard much about tongue and groove. anyone know how well these things hold up compared to velcro. any pros and cons about either one??? ive read reviews and threads, not much about tongue and groove. velcro seems to do pretty well. not really interested in hard tops either.

I got the tongue and groove style and it holds up great!!

 

My father has had a velcro cover on his truck for the past 3 w/ no problems. Seems to hold up well. Nice cover.

You can't really go wrong with either. The metal snaps are horrible. A buddy of mine has one and conned me into helping him snap nearly 100 buttons... Never again. I would personally go for the velcro.

 

im kinda leaning towards a tongue-and-groove tonneau. seems like it would seal better and stay sealed more than the velcro..

 

I have an Advantage Torza Top Tonneau Cover, and it has 4 levers that lock it into the bed rails. no mods needed to make it work, just lay it on and lock it in.

Well my vote is for the tri-folding type. I have the Extang Trifecta and have nothing bad to say about this cover.

never used the tounge and groove system before. i have used velcro and if you dont roll it prefectly straight it will make wrinkles and you have to peel if back and try again. seems that tounge and groove system is pretty solid. that was my vote.

Its so easy to take on and off, Doubt you will need it when you have your 4 wheeler loaded, so you can fold it up and take it off and just lay it in your bed til you get your 4 wheeler out and want your tonneau back on.
it literally takes about 1 minute to install.

 

I have had many bed covers. On the taco i have know i have the lund tri-fold and it is by far the best one i have ever had. I had a velcrow one and a snap one and they both sucked compared to this one. Im not sure if they make them for the 2nd gens but if they do i highly recoment getting one.

I have an Advantage Torza top where the vinyl & frame are all one piece. I'll never go back to the other styles. I used to own the snapped versions and the vinyl stretches & shrinks too much in the cold/hot weather to make any of those attachment styles worth it.

 

x2. Bakflip folds all the way up to give you access to the whole bed, or can de-install within minutes. Very heavy duty and self locking so there is no access to your bed if you have a tailgate lock. Only negative is you lose your side tie downs since the cover uses the rails for install. The front tie downs can still be used along with the D-rings..

 

What's the going price on that Torza? Anyone have pictures of how it attaches to your Tacoma?

 

I have the Extang Tuff Tonno on my Tacoma, and it's been about a year. It's the J-hook (or tongue & groove as you called it), and I'm happy with it. I had a snap cover on my last truck for about 7 years, and it worked out fine for me. I'm just off the TX Gulf Coast, so cold temps weren't too much of an issue.

A snap cover does roll up easier then the J-hook does, as the material around the J-hook, to give it the strength it needs, makes rolling it up nicely more of a two man job. But the snap and the J-hook are what they are, cheap, light covers for the bed. Want more features, add more money.

I like the Tuff Tonno, $240 gives me what I need. I've thought about the Trifecta, but, as you've already mentioed, I want to be able to roll the cover up next to the window to get access to the full bed, as opposed to having to remove the cover to use the entire bed. Not saying it's a bad cover, just wasn't what I was looking for.

 

Does the Tuff Tonno use the traditional bow system like the snap covers do?
