Aftermarket rear bumper

Does anyone know of a good aftermarket rear bumper for a 98 taco? I would prefer something with an integrated hitch receiver.

 

Wheelers offroad out of Grants Pass OR carries some nice custom wrap around tube bumpers for the 1st gens. Give em a call. I'll have one designed this summer as well.

 

They don't carry an aftermarket rear, only the ARB front.

 

Its not on their website, but they carry them in the warehouse. I've seen them on the shelves and one of the guys that works there has one on his truck. Just give them a call and ask about one. I think they wanted like $4-500

 

I am saving up to get the Trailrider from CBI with out the tire gate.

Originally, I was going to get them to do the same type of angles on the back side as their Trailrider 2.0 (for second gens), but I've since changed my mind.


What I'd really like is it All Pro would do this bumper for a 1st gen, with the behind the plate hitch. Of course the top and sides would have to be cut off to fit the 1st gen body style.

Maybe a combo of CBI and All Pro, if there's even enough room for the hitch directly behind the bumper.

Armor Tech is another company, but I haven't seen any of their 1st gen stuff, so unsure if they have a template for that or not.

Then there was an ebay one that didn't look awful, but the seller currently doesn't have it listed. Didn't look quite as strong as some of the others, but as far as looks go, it wasn't bad. Quite a bit like Armor Techs but with squared off ends and no tire gate. Hitch and recovery spots were the same way, but I dont believe he had backup light holes either.

It seems like there was another one I was considering. Of course I've only been considering plate rears. There's many many tube type bumpers.

 

I called wheelers and they said they don't have anything. Would have been nice.

Has anyone in the Portland, OR metro area had one fabbed by a shop?

 

really? Damn, maybe they discontinued it. If you dont find something you like, hit me up in a month or so and I can build something to your own specs for ya. Tube, plate, whatever.

I like the stuff that badlands makes, but I was looking for something a little cheaper and more basic. I am putting an ARB Bull on the front.

 

I figured this thread is as good as any to post this question in. If not you can delete or move this post.

Forgive me for not knowing the exact term for the part, but I'm talking about the part attached to bumper that wraps around and protects the rear quarter panel with the single tube.

My question is: would it make any sense to have this bolt on so you can remove it for ease of cleaning/waxing/polishing? Or would that be a retarded idea because you lose its protection value which is why it's there in the first place.

 

Uhh...I think you're supposing that people who have offroad tube bumpers wash their trucks.

These things are built for durability. Not to look shiny and clean.

Sure I suppose you can chop it off, weld on some brackets that you can bolt on and off, but that would be a complete waste of time to fabricate, a waste of metal, and waste of time everytime you want to wash your truck.

Besides, there's usually enough of a gap to reach your fingers with a towel in between there.



Back to the OP, I have a badlands rear bumper and I really like it. It came with my truck, but I like the diamondplate on it.

 

All pro has one. Im not sure about the quality or anything, but it looks good.

 

If you saw my truck you'd realize I'm not overly concerned, or much at all, about keeping it shiny and pretty.

Just an idea, thought I'd throw it out there.

 

I wash mine once a year...... Whether it needs it or not!

 

typically I was it twice a year.

 

I'm a fan of the plate style that road armour makes. I'm probably gonna fab up my own stuff when I get time.. .

 

I like a low profile plate bumper with a tube wrap up against the rear quarter panels

 

I would rather stick to a plate bumper as my front bumper will be an ARB full bull. I have drawings for one I would like to make, but i live in a townhouse with a .8 car sized carage, so it isn't really an option. Anyone in the portland area got a shop? I can cut and weld, just need a place to do it.
