Sell Land Crusier for DC Tacoma?

Hey all,

I am new to this forum and I am looking for some biased advice (what else would I get on a Tacoma forum). I just test drove a DC off-road package Tacoma yesterday and I really liked it. I have a Subaru STi that I will be trading in and I have a '96 Land Cruiser that I will try and sell own my own. I would be down to one vehicle and using the Tocoma for everything. I mountian bike, camp, and do overland type off roading. I also have two kids to cart around. I will mod the Tacoma, of course, but just a lift and bumpers at first maybe a topper too.

I have been trying to decide if I will miss having two cars and if the Tacoma can replace the Cruiser and STi. I really dont drive too much during the week - 6 miles each way to work and I ride my bike most of the summer anyway. I only have 11500 on the Subie after 2 yrs.

Any insights would be appreciated.

You going to sell LC are you nuts. Nothing can replace that . I like Tacoma but I like my LC much much much more.
I would never trade my LC for Tacoma .... not even close competition.

I ended up getting rid of my daily driver and my track car when I got the Tacoma. I really miss having a second vehicle thats a more sporty ride to switch it up every now and then. If its an option maybe sell the cruiser and get a used DC, if a DC is what you really want? STI's are freaking sweet, and a blast to drive if you ever get the chance to get on a track.

This is a tough decision... If there are financial obligations, I would say keep what you have. If not, then sell the LC for a Tacoma and keep the STi.

 

You can't pretend your a rally car driver in a tacoma! STI....STI.....STI....

I'd keep the Land Cruiser over my 2010 DC off Road. Just put the money into keeping it up.

 

Those land cruisers are gems! I want that body style so badly. Keep the cruiser

 

This is kind of an apple and oranges thing. The LC is definitely nice and one of the all-time greatest overlanding vehicles. However, it is not a truck, it's an SUV. The two have so many different characteristics and are designed for different purposes.

I personally love having a pick up bed for my bicycle and other junk. And I appreciate that the cargo area is separated from the cabin. I tried the SUV thing for 5 years or so and had to sell because I was itching so badly to have a truck again.

That reminds me, doesn't the LC have a slightly higher cargo capacity than the Tacoma?

 

keep the LC and the STI. i had a 72 fj40 and i miss the hell out of it. if i could do it all over id have the LC and an STI.

That is a good point and I really do like having 2 vehicles. I've done the track day thing with my old STi and I just have too many other things going on now to do it again. Plus i know how expensive it is - went a little crazy turning the '05 into a track car.

Thinking arount $9000 for the Cruiser. No lockers but still a great truck.

Exactly my point. So many times I have wanted a pick up bed. I have search so many threads on Expo type Tacomas and I think it would work well for my needs.

Overall having an STi is a blast but I really don't drive it as I should, I tend to be out doing stuff instead. The Cruiser is great for my outdoor pursuits but it seems too much for me at times too.

I don't need to do this for any financial reasons - I guess I could just trade the STi and keep the cruiser (don't own on it anyway). I think I may be thiking about this too much. Maybe I'm just getting tired of the Subie. This is my second STi and while they are great cars they do have their limitations.

AndySTi - That's one sweet black scooby you got there...exactly what I'd like to have! I'm in the middle of getting my next new vehicle and I was debating over the STi or Taco, but decided on a 2010 DC Taco instead due to price and utility factor. It's on order now and should be here sometime next week for the test drive. Hopefully in the future I'll get the opportunity to jump in a scooby.

Btw this forum's great! I'm getting super excited for owning my first truck!
